Hasselblad 500C & Portra 800 (expired)

Got a Hasselblad on loaner from my pal Kev. I also got a hold of some expired film, so was keen to get through it.

I've been feeling the urge for a medium format camera recently, and have already decided that if I do MF, then it has to be film as I don't want anything larger than my current full frame set up with digital bodies.

I took a walk in Glasgow, and got through a roll of Portra 400. I'm only skipping that roll for now because it's not diretly relevant to the...

8589: Harman Phoenix | September 2024

I've almost made my way through my stash of Phoenix. It's a bit hit and miss in general as a film stock, and while I do have a soft spot for it I just don't see it as a mainstay in my film choice once I've done the next few rolls.

That said, I do plan to try the medium format version when I get a shot of a pals medium format camera...

Kodak Tmax 400 (pushed 800) | Sept/Oct 2024

Full roll here, with a few keepers.

I've been loosely working at Gulabi for a year now, called in to cover sickness/holidays etc, but more recently I've been able to scan my own rolls which is something I very much enjoy.

These were done with the Noritsu, and the controls (that I'm currently aware of, at least) have given me the most flexibility over the final result. I still tweak a little in Lightroom after the fact, mostly just dialing in a touch of texture/clarity and bringing...

Clocked 8km today. Very flat light, though I opted for the M11 to capture some colour instead.

Cormorants

Went to Harlaw Reservoir today.

I've not seen Cormorants here before, so was pretty nice to see them drying off by the waters edge. I managed to get relatively close considering I don't have anything longer than a 35mm on my rangefinders!

On foot.

Out again today, with the Monochrom no less. I keep forgetting to charge my M11, and the M246 battery just refuses to die - can't remember the last time I charged it!

A few days ago I realised that I don't really photograph my immediate local area, and so I'm using my walking app to map my routes and keeping a camera on me. Gonna chip away at this for a while, would be nice to have a solid collection of images of Paisley.

Of course, just sharing everything with you here.

Monochrom + Urgent piss.

I had some film to drop off at the lab, and Robyn needed a nap. And as I am perpetually skint right now, I decided to just walk from Paisley to Glasgow and take the Monochrom with me.

What a pain in the arse. I'm trying to get a bit fitter overall at the moment, and this marked my first 'big' walk. So I glugged some water and off I went. It was windy as fuck, the light was flat and just generally miserable. Coupled with the fact that since I'm trying to make sure I drink more water at ...

Summer's end.

Quickly just jumping in to share these photos, as in the morning I'll be making my way down to Tenby in Wales. Got the ironman competition coming up that Robyn's brother is competing in.

I'm starting to feel nervous, which is weird, as I'm not even fucking competing!

Anyway, It feels like summer barely even happened this year. I got to enjoy being able to visit the beach the last couple of nights though for some beautifully still weather, paddling in the sea, and sunsets. Maybe we...

First shots with new 35mm lens!

I felt like I had talked myself into buying a 28mm once I'd gotten shot of the 35mm Summicron. Alas, the 28 Nokton was a bit more pricey than the 35 Nokton... and I'm really in no position to be flitting money away so opted to stick to what I know for now. A sensible choice that is probably long overdue. At least I'm pretty much out of debt now thanks to the car. Back to a regular level of broke and barely surviving. Living the dream!

My pal Bryan mentioned the possibility of going out ...

Glasgow on 28?

The eternal struggle of settling on a focal length.

I've forced myself to be a 35mm shooter the past few years basically due to that being the initial focal length that I got for my M bodies, with the Voigtlander Nokton 35 1.4.

Multi or single coated? Couldn't honestly say.

Either way, that led me to getting the 35 Biogon instead of the Nokton (I had the Q2 at the time, so didn't see the point in a 28), and that ended up with me buying the Summicron when it cam...

A day of Street Photography in Glasgow

I’d not been into the city for weeks. A mixture of not feeling it, and also indulging other curiosities now that I’m enjoying putting videos together.

Robyn was heading into town, and asked if I wanted a lift. I’ve been in a rut with my photography lately, so wasn’t initially keen, but figured I needed to get out for a walk and a hour or so would do me good so I took the offer...

Next thing I knew, I'd met a couple of pals and walked 25k steps.

I'm going to write mor...

PHOTO BLOG: Abandoned Tannahill Scheme

I went to meet Baz and Liam at an abandoned estate local to me.

I'd just been at a protest in town and had shot a roll of Tmax. This left me with a roll of Phoenix, a 200 speed film that I always shoot at 100 and process normally.

The sun was starting to set, which meant if I wanted to shoot any photos I'd have to use my tripod for those slow slutter speeds. In a pinch I shoot handheld down to 1/15th, but the lighting I was in needed upto a full second of exposure.

So, in th...

PHOTOS: Empire State Bastard at Core Fest, Glasgow

Here's a small selection of photos from last nights Empire State Bastard show.

There was no photo pit, and instead I was crammed to the front of the stage amongst the crowd. Not a problem for me, I love environments like that and you get to feel an actual part of it!

I was shooting film - no idea how that turned out yet, as I didn't finish the roll. But after the first song I decided I'd go side stage to try for something a little different (I've only ever shot from the pit/crowd ...

EMPIRE STATE BASTARD - Palms of Hands - Core Fest, Glasgow

I video'd this to means test the camera footage more than anything else, just figured I'd share here too.

Excuse the rough audio. It was unforgivingly loud last night, too much for the camera mic which was even on it's lowest setting!

24500: Kodak Tmax 400 (pushed 1600) | July 2024

I bought ten rolls of Tmax last year to use up during the moody winter months. But that, err, never happened. I almost always loaded a roll of Portra 800 instead. But the time has come to an end, I am almost out of Portra 800 and so I've started shooting my Tmax 400. However, it's that goddamn bright I'm pretty much exclusively shooting my shutter/aperture maxed out 1/1000th, f16) bceause I'm a lunatic that seems to insist on pushing it to 1600. But hey, I like the look of it, and it means I'...

all my friends are... tentacles [tour diary]

Went away to Stoke-on-Trent with my buddy Stephen to play the legendary Electric Tentacle night (thanks Andy & Colin!) at Captain's Bar.

We’ve paired up for a lot of music stuff in the past, but his AMFAS stuff it’s all him, and I generally tag along be an on stage hype man. Think Bez, but the maracas are wei...

Photos from my trip to Stoke-on-Trent with Stephen!

absence and new gear

I've neglected to update this lately, I went down a mental health hole a few weeks ago, and while I am out the other side of that now, I've just been... busy?

I've managed to bag myself the new Nikon Z6iii. Despite being a Nikon DSLR shooter back in the day before I went Fuji, and then ultimately to Leica, going to the Nikon Z series wasn't something I ever expected to do. EVF's fuck my eyes, and I just love the optical rangefinder system with my M bodies too much.

I got the Z7ii ...

Pushing HP5 to 1600 is... really nice actually.

Seems appropriate to lead this gallery with the photo of Sunak!

Honestly, I really struggled to shoot film throughout June. Weird thing to feel 'defeated' about, tbh, but I am making a concious effort to shoot the bulk of the year on film. That has been made increasingly difficult just to how in love I am with the M11 again, though. First word problems eh!!

A lot of these photos are meh. Me and Robyn went to the skatepark as mentioned in an earlier post, and I intended to shoot i...

The Barras Market & Kidney Stones!

Oh fuck, I was feeling it when it turned out I had Kidney Stones. My body was vibrating from the pain. I wanted to cry but was physically unable to. I took my trousers and trainers off and sat on the floor of the A&E (ew, pain really makes you do weird things).

The only way I can describe the pain is if you're able to imagine the feeling of being kicked in the bollocks, that sharp pain that hits a few seconds after. it was that, but constant. It really wasn't fucking about...

street photography at the barras (& kidney stones???)

It's foolish to go out and expect to get any 'bangers' (let alone just one!) but what I enjoy with posting videos for singular days out is just showing a part of the process with all the misses that come with it.

I enjoyed this session. Well, until I was rushed to the hospital that is.

I'm feeling much better now.

A huge fire in Paisley

I've been none-stop this past couple of weeks, it's hard to keep up with posting - had a pretty full on weekend videoing and photographing Cory for his Ironman Triathlon training. He left today, and as we were getting ready to relax for the evening, and then we saw some smoke from our flat and immediately jumped in the car and just drove toward it. The scale of this was unreal to witness. No one injured, as far as I’m aware.

There's warnings to keep all windows closed tonight as they ...

Scarborough, Day 3 & 4 | June 2024

Just behind my parents house, the road joins a route called 'The Wolds Way'. I've never walked it, and likely never will - it's 80 mile long. But I do occasionally take a walk up the hill, it's just over a mile and where I would fuck off to when I was a kid. There's a small quarry hidden within the trees, which was much more accessible when I was young. It's so over grown now, I actually left the photo in colour so you could see the chaotic wall of green. At the top of there was where younger...
