Dr. No (runtime 1:49:50) - Patreon Version

Hi Everyone!

It's time for a classic Bond! I've seen a few of the newer ones, but never a Connery, and boy oh boy does he deliver. I can see why he's so many people's favorite Bond, he's charming, suave, and a total badass.

We had a great time watching Dr. No, and I hope you will too! I'm also excited to see what the future of Connery's Bond brings, it looks like there are a bunch of movies to look forward to!

That scene of losing his trusted Beretta and being given a Walther pistol is taken from the book. I forgot how formidable he makes that 7.65mm gun sound. It has a dated feel. Typical handgun calibers today would be 9mm up to .45 (which is 11.43mm). You can still buy a .32 Walther (7.65mm) but it's not considered a powerful gun.

So, if you're going to watch them all, then, there's plenty of time until "Casino Royale", the first Craig film. (Cue the haters ๐Ÿ˜‚) That gives you time to read this first James Bond book by the same name! I love that book, and the film is very close to the book! (I like audio books, personally, and live the audio version of Casino Royale.)

"Dr No" was published in 1958 as the 6th Bond novel. This was the first film adaptation. The first story was "Casino Royale" published in 1953. There were 12 novels and two collections of short stories written by Ian Fleming. Fleming died in 1964, so he did live to see his character portrayed in movies. This is my favorite Bond movie because it's the first I saw and of course because of Andress loping out of the ocean in a bikini (I was quite impressionable when I saw that scene). I agree there are better Bond movies, but this is the O.G. It set the mold that every Bond film has had to follow to some extent. It defined a category of movie and of hero that has lasted over 60 years.
