Logan (runtime 2:17:23) - Patreon Version

Hey Everybody!

It took a while but I finally got to watch a comic movie with Chandra! I chose Logan because I saw it when it came out an absolutely LOVED it, but it also completely destroyed me, so I never got around to watching it again.

There was so much I didn't remember, it felt like I was watching it for the first time. It's exciting, heart-breaking, and bittersweet. It's a wonderful movie, and I appreciate that it doesn't pull any punches (In more ways than one haha). I hope you'll join us for Logan!

You're so right about Dafne Keen as Laura - I would looove to see her continue in these movies!!

So just a few comments regarding comics and this movie: - There is a well known comic story featuring Wolverine called "Old Man Logan", but it has nothing in common with the story in this movie, other than the concept "What would Logan be like when he's old"? - Laura is in the comic, and is derived from Wolverine's genetic material, but her origin has nothing in common with the story in this movie, other than very broad strokes (Built and designed to be an assassin and killing machine This movie's story is nearly entirely original, and it also is probably the best of the Fox X-Men movies. So many of the X-Men movies got at least the core characteristics and broad story beats right (the Charles/Magneto dynamic, Jean sacrificing herself to save the X-Men before becoming Phoenix, time travel to un-write an apocalyptic extinction in Days of Future Past) but were undone by either questionable character changes and combinations, bizarre updates to or omissions from classic stories they were adapting, or just plain bad storytelling. This movie shows the potential they had with the franchise all along to tell compelling, moving stories so long as they stayed true to the characters and focused on telling good stories. A final thought - the brass at Marvel Studios are completely nuts if they don't simply back up dumptrucks of money and empty them on Dafne Keen's lawn to lock her up to play Wolverine in whatever the MCU looks like in the future. The foundation of Laura being a legacy character who takes on the Wolverine mantle is well established in the comics. And Dafne's portrayal of Laura in this story and her chemistry with Hugh Jackman gives her the bona fides to play Wolverine. This is is the easiest no brainer, slam dunk decision Marvel Studios has been faced with in a very long time. Great reaction as always, and it was a real treat to have you both along in this one.
