S2W Internal Corners

Patron Aceria noted that I was missing internal corners for s2w, and yeah, total oversight, so I fixed that. Everywhere, all at once.

This update gives you the floors and bases to be able to use these in s2w builds, both as single tile and modular, and does it for cut-stone, dungeon stone, towne, cut-stone ruined and dungeon stone ruined, so kinda all of it.

OpenForge Catalog 0.4.1 Released

So this is a broad based update, lots of updates going out.

First off we have data updates. I've added a bit under 500 files this go around, and so now you can find in the catalog:

  • Catacombs (really only one set)

  • Caves (Sandstone and Aggregate)

  • Sewers

  • Legacy Sewers

  • and Pools

This means I've also added most of the thick wall bases to support all of those.

Next up, big update is it took some n...

Base Customizer

The newest big feature of the OpenForge Catalog is the Base Customizer! This tab lets you design the base you want, letting you choose all the qualities and to explore all the options for what your base can do. Right now it can design bases for:

  • Square Tiles

  • S2W Walls and Corners

  • Curved (and Curved Radial, Curved Inverted)

  • Diagonal

  • Hex (60 degree)

  • Some special tiles, like the Portal and the Infinity Hal...

Minor updates

I've got two updates for the releases 2 days ago.

  • User Radzik noticed that the deeplinks were not working across releases.

Well, that was a bug based on me using the id of the object instead of the md5 of the file which had been my original intent. Now, deeplinks will work across releases, though all old deeplinks are permanently broken. There's one exception to this. If a file itself gets updated, deeplinks will break. Making deeplinks go to the newest versi...

Ruined updates

The second big update in data is combined with the tile release this month. Dungeon Stone Ruined and Cut-Stone Ruined got a bunch of updates this month. There's now S2W support for both, Dungeon Stone Block floors got the ruined treatment, and Cut-Stone Ruined got separate walls. All of these are in the OpenForge Catalog, live now!

OpenForge Catalog Data: Towne

This month there were two major data updates and a ton of fixed, but we're going to only talk about the one of the major updates and the fixes. Towne is now live in the OpenForge Catalog! The full set of objects in the OpenForge Dropbox for Towne is now searchable and downloadable from the catalog.

There have been a bunch of other updates:

  • To support the new multipart work, you can now get the extra parts for grates, torches and secret doors. There's plenty more to come...

OpenForge Catalog 0.3.0: Blueprints

I've been hard at work this month on an update for the openforge catalog that I'm really excited about. This month I've added blueprints. This was thing I designed the whole site around being able to serve. It's become confusing as to what parts you need to build the tile you want, well, that's where blueprints come in. These allow you to select the type of thing you want to make and get an interface that lets you pick and choose each part needed to make the final object. So in the image...

Half Stairs

Last year I made stair adapters for wall on tile and s system, and then I went and did this whole S2W thing, messing that all up. Well, I've fixed that. These new adapters, being published for both cut-stone and dungeon stone at the same time give you a ton of flexibility. They are the same thickness as walls (half an inch), so you can combine these a bunch of different ways. You can attach separate wall bases to them, and keep them on their own. You can put them with a wall on a 2x1 bas...

Cut Stone in the catalog (and other data changes)

I made a ton of data tweaks and additions this month. First and foremost is cut-stone is now in the catalog! I've also done tons of tag updates to make it a little less confusing.

This will still be refined over time, but now the data is in enough of a good shape to show the basic structure of what I'm intending here.

Build

This is the top level system. Separate wall, S-System, S2W, etc

Size

This should hold the bulk of the th...

OpenForge Catalog Alpha 2 is up!

I'm going to be doing two releases today for the catalog. One for the code changes, and the other for data.

The first release was very successful, and I got a lot of good feedback. Rather than add the next big feature set I decided to use this month to refine the experience for the model search, and there's a bunch of new goodies:

First off I have a some changes related to URLs. The system had no way of sharing a model or a set of tag that you found inside the system. Well, no...

OpenForge Catalog Alpha is up!

The alpha of the openforge catalog is up. Here's what you can expect.

  • It's not very pretty, this is an alpha release

  • All we have so far is the tag filtering to find single stls.

  • It's not immediately intuitive yet, and I'll be working on refining it, but on the left, you can expand tag categories, and then select tags to filter by. Say like build|s-system or build|separate wall, or texture|dungeon_stone.

  • Each tag you select refines the...

Alpha Catalog coming this weekend

Hey all, just wanted to let you know, the alpha version of the catalog is going to release over the weekend. It should have released today, but I got roped into a last minute business trip that prevented me from doing the release today.

The code works and is verified. First release will be just a tool for finding parts, and the parts in the system thus far are just dungeon stone. That being said, I'm excited about what's coming out, as I think it's a really great way to explore parts...

Towne Long Plank Floors

Since I'm doing some work in the towne tiles, I figured heard some people discussing that they prefer long planked tiles, where the wood runs 2 inches. It's still plenty easy to figure out where the squares are with this design (something I learned with city streets).

There is one impact, which is any odd inch tiles really don't work with this, so there's no 1x1, 2x1, 3x1, 3x3 or 4x1 in this set.

Unsupported? and Grab Bag

Another thing I've heard a few times and finally did something about. A lot of people really don't like the supports that come with the default openlock ports. Well, here you go. All the basic square floors that have been recently updated now have a +unsupported option that I um, support. Dungeon Stone Block, Dungeon Stone Eroded, Cut-Stone, Towne and Towne Long Planks have all been updated. Along with most of the bases for floors.

There's still tons of files that need to be added,...

Voting should be fixed, try the link again.

Google dramatically changed the interface in a recent release and I messed it up. Ping me if it's still not working.

Voting

I skipped a few months on voting because the software project for the catalog is a huge lift, so we won't be seeing a new set that we're working on for a while.

I'm taking this time to fill in lots of little problems and address things that make managing openforge harder.

One thing that I've done, and some of you have noticed, is I've pivoted over entirely to S2W as how we do wall on tile moving forward. There are still a number of older wall on tile objects out there, and some w...

Towne: Facelift and S2W for Corners

Corners get a facelift in this release. Before, we had support only for the separate wall approach to s2w. Now Towne can do wall on tile s2w. Also, I added support for low walls as well as the broken stucco walls.

Towne: Facelift for Primary Walls & S2W

Now that I’ve converted Cut-Stone and Dungeon Stone to s2w conversion for wall on tile, it's time to start on Towne. This huge set of updates includes every single one of the towne basic walls and low walls. I added D (3"), and BA (1.5", along with what's used for corners) got tons of updates. I added Dragonlock support across the board. In total, I gave a couple hundred wall parts a facelift or new options. Note: I have not yet updated the curved walls pictured here.

Catalog updates

The catalog has gotten a lot of work this month. Unfortunately, the UI just isn't ready for even alpha public consumption. However, we do have a number of updates:

  • Dungeon Stone and the bases have their data imported (there will still of course be updates)

  • Everything imported have all been uploaded for distribution to R2 (sort of like S3 for those in the biz. They are able to be downloaded today, we just need an interface in front of them

  • All fil...

Cut-Stone full pillars with torches

Since I was doing the pillars anyway, I decided to make torch pillars too. They use LEDs to make flickering torches.  Versions are available for 1 side, L, across from each other, tee and all 4 sides.  Instructions included on how to do the electronics.

Features

  • The torch wall now uses a standardized connector, making assembly dramatically easier.

  • The torches are removable, so you can switch colors, or use the connector for future electrification...

Pillars of the community

A reminder that STL releases will be a little lite for a while as I am dedicating far more time to getting the catalog to functional. These full cut-stone pillars needed a makeover for 2025. They now meet the same standards as the Dungeon Stone set.

Catalog Updates

Time for the monthly updates on the catalog. In the last month, we've started coding on the catalog.

  • Starting database schema has been created

  • Framework for the API and the frontend have both been selected and built out (Python, Flask + Postgres for backend, Nextjs for frontend)

  • Initial API has been created (swagger docs here)

Catalog Started

We heard from you in a big way that the OpenForge Catalog is a thing you want to see. This month, we started the project. I still of course will need to put most of my time and attention into getting releases out, but I'll be dedicating a third of my release time moving forward to the catalog project. Each month, I'll give an update as to what's going on with the project.

Month 1 updates:

  • First cut of requirements hammered out, and we've made some decisions on what will be...

Last set of sandstone updates

I got the rest of the older sandstone stuff updated, some of it was a little janky, so there are some big reworking on them. Outcrops and the aggregate floors both got fully updated. All our current locking mechanisms are now supported on both. Outcrops got a bigger update in that there are now also bases for all of them that go to the table, meaning there are now no sandstone/aggregate tiles that don't support the clean look of stone all the way to the table.

S-System Secret Doors

Cleaning up some missing things this month. Turns out we got through dungeon stone s series without ever doing secret doors. That's now been resolved. In many ways I like this secret door more than the standard one since the break point runs at the seam of the bricks.

Enjoy!

November 2024 Vote

Ok, I've heard the votes loud and clear, people want the catalog. Nothing has ever shot up the charts anywhere near as fast as that one did. I want to keep producing tiles of course, and a software project isn't a short thing, so I'm going to be reserving the time I would dedicate to one of my three releases per month to do the catalog. This month I'm going to work on building the scraper to get the data, and start talking with people who have offered to pitch in about next steps.

Sandstone outcrops add organic feel

This is the last release of the month, and I love outcrop tiles. They are a great way to make caves feel more organic. Paired with the outcrops from the older sandstone and aggregate sets, you can get a ton of cave variation out of them.

Instructions

Print these tiles in Overture Rock (Fossil) PLA and Overture Rock (Sedim...

Sandstone floors provide textured ground for caves

Next up we have our sandstone floors. I can't tell you how excited I am about these tiles. All of the above were printed with the rock PLA, and I think they look fantastic. Every print is varied. I recommend printing a plate's worth of tiles per print. You’ll use more of the roll, creating more banding and maximizing the rock-like appearance on the final piece. If you’re using a slicer that can optimize for detail (banbu/orca/prusa can all do variable layer height), it's worth it.

Everything old is new again

At least when it comes to old cave tiles.

I released new cave sandstone tiles last month, and it's time to finally update the other files to meet current standards. In this release, I updated all the old two-lobe sandstone and aggregate walls and corners. The full update includes:

  • Single-piece openlock prints

  • Dragonlock side clips

  • bases with texture all the way to the table on the sides that don't have clips.

This was a mega up...

IMPORTANT NOTE and October 2024 Voting

I know voting is a little late this month, but I'll leave it open until Nov 1. So, important note. Patreon is being forced to remove most of it's billing options by Apple. I don't have any choice in the matter, so I'm gonna try to make this as painless as I can. This means that many projects need to update, as does OpenForge. We'll be forced into a monthly fee approach, ...
