We figured the Blade movies would be perfect to watch during October! I'm so excited to get to know this character. As it stands I don't know anything other than the fact that his movies are vampire themed! Which sounds so fricken fun!

That was a great re-watch! This film is such a specific tone/vibe. Yes, there is some cheese here and there, but as far as ushering in the new era of superhero storytelling, this movie did a lot of heavy lifting, in my opinion. Also, I just noticed: "Spare me the Uncle Tom routine" is a ridiculously loaded line that I had forgotten about. While I cannot say that the movie really "earns" the points for including that kind of theming, it definitely hints at it in a way that isn't intrusive/distracting. He's a "child of two worlds", like Spock, a deaf person with a cochlear implant, or any biracial character/human being. The potential for telling interesting stories about those kinds of characters will always be there. The so-called "strengths" and "weaknesses" are open for endless speculation and introspection.
