The chains!! I didn't even think twice about that, but you're right... It's an even more powerful moment because it's the chains Todd put on him.

Chandra

Oooo I love this, thank you!

Chandra

I totally agree. Breaks your heart though

Chandra

We will, thank you!

One minor clarification, when the machine gun went off, Walt was “safe” on the floor but in that situation no one is really safe. Those are extremely high caliber rounds, to penetrate through those walls. When a round hits something it is hot and can easily fragment. If Walt were hit by a full round he would probably have minutes to live, like Jack, who was bleeding out and even with an ambulance probably wouldn’t have survived the trip to the hospital. But Walt got hit in the midsection by a fragment of a bullet and that is enough to slowly kill someone. Reminds me of (well I was not even 1 years old) the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan. He got hit by a fragmented round. Missed his heart by inches and if he wasn’t the President of the USA, rushed to the hospital with immediate care from the best doctors, he may have died. Someone else made the point of Walter dying in a Christ-like position with the way that final scene was shot. Makes perfect sense as if he was not on top of Jesse, or did not knock Jesse down and was on top of him, Jessie would have likely been killed. Walt gave his life to save Jesse, which is so deep and also why I’m so glad you’re going to watch El Camino before starting BCS. Todd was lucky that he didn’t get hit by anything, which made it so satisfying that Jesse could strangle him with the chains he’d been shackled in! (Though that, I think goes against the teachings of Christ 😀). Todd was killed by the chains he used on Jesse, Lydia killed by her obsession with Stevia (still have no idea how Walt put ricin into a closed packet, but the man is a genius so I can accept he was able to do it). Only person I really feel bad for (other than Skyler and Walt Jr, though they do have lots of money coming to them, and of course Marie), is Lydia’s little daughter who did nothing wrong. Also just have to say that when I first saw this I completely bought the story of Walt hiring assassins to keep tabs on Gretchen and Elliot. When it was revealed that “the two best hitmen west of the Mississippi” were Badger and Skinny Pete I absolutely laughed my ass off! Props to Jordan for calling it out that those may have been laser pointers, the man has been totally locked in lately with GOT and BB! ABSOLUTELY LOVED watching along with you both!!!

Wow, awesome stuff!!! I’ve rewatched this series so many times and did not pick up on a lot of what you just shared, thank you!

Bill B.

Yeah I would absolutely recommend this. It’s the one titled “Better Call Saul.” Specifically the scene when Walt and Jesse wear those ski masks and kidnap Saul and take him out to the desert.

Bill B.

Wow, that’s some awesome insight! I knew about the felina/finale anagram, but didn’t know that those elements are literally part of Blood, Meth, and Tears. Absolute perfection!

Bill B.

Basically the perfect ending to perhaps the best show ever made! I am so happy you are going to watch BCS, and really happy you’re going to watch El Camino in between! That’s the perfect way to do it!

Bill B.

So happy you will be doing BCS without much of a break! I think its helpful to have a few of the events, or even lines of dialogue from BB fresh in your mind when you watch BCS.

Walt was diagnosed with cancer just after his 50th birthday. Upon his diagnosis he was told "Lung cancer. Inoperable. Best case scenario, with treatment I'll live maybe a couple of years." Walt dies on his 52nd birthday. Such an impactful finale. The show's premise was how a man changes. Also in the pilot, Walt says to his students "Chemistry is the study of matter. Though I prefer to see it as the study of change. It is growth, decay then transformation." As with the theme of the poem Ozymandias, up until recently had been his growth, then the last few episodes have been his decay and finally in this episode, we get his transformation. The title for this episode has so many meanings that all tie in it's actually remarkable: - Felina is an anagram of Finale - Feleena is character in a Marty Robins song El Paso (the song from the CD that plays in the car in New Hampshire) who, like Walt gets shot and dies. - The lyrics we hear in the intro are "maybe tomorrow a bullet will find me" which is what happens to Walt. - Fe is the elemental symbol for Iron, a component of blood. Li is the symbol for Lithium, a component of meth. Na is sodium, a component of tears. Giving the finale (and show overall) a slogan of Blood, Meth & Tears, which I think fits very well lol. You gotta remember that the last thing Walt said to Jesse before this episode was his "I watched Jane die" speech. Only reason he didn't shoot is because Walt was already a goner and he didn't want to be played again by Walt having him think he's actually doing something.

I like to believe that Walt was proud of Jesse walking through the lab, how clean and well he did despite his living situation. At the start of the show Walt is in distress hearing sirens coming towards him and here he is again, sirens in the distance but at peace full circle.

It was great to be along for the ride! Before you start Better Call Saul rewatch season 2 episode 8 of Breaking Bad. It still blows my mind that much of BCS was birthed from 1 or 2 throw away, meaningless, statements from that episode.

Great reactions for this series, guys! :) The song choice for the end is really cool - "Baby Blue" by Badfinger. Badfinger has a tragic story, so they're really the best ones to wrap up the tragedy of Breaking Bad (not to mention the lyrics are perfect). I think the creator, Vince Gilligan, had this song in mind to end the series for quite a while.

Thanks for taking us with you on this journey! I am equally excited and bummed to watch this finale tonight. Later: This was fun, thanks! So glad you will doing the movie and potentially BCS.

Oh wow, there is so much more depth than I thought! I also never considered how Walt affected the whole drug scene overall like you mention. It's amazing how complex his character really was.

Chandra

Aww thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

Facts!

The title for the finale is intricate- as for the periodic table FeLiNa, is iron, lithium and sodium. Iron is in blood, lithium in meth and sodium in tears. Felina is an anagram for finale. Its also the name of the woman in the song that Walt hums when he builds a robot in the desert. #62 (number of episode) on the periodic table is the chemical element Samarium and it is used in treating lung cancer. When Walter was hanging over that crib, saying goodbye to his daughter for the last time Skyler could have had some kind of change of heart about him. In the closing scene of 0504, 'Fifty-One' Walter tells Skyler she will change her mind about him. If there ever was a moment it was here. Something a lot of people overlook is Walter took out so many people in the drug business that you could say he positively effected it in that regard. Also Gretchen & Elliot spoke on Charlie Rose about their 28 million dollar charity grant announcement for drug abuse treatment centers in the south west that would have never been possible without Mr. White. Walter builds a robot in the desert to save Jesse & his family which is a call back to '4 Days Out' when Jesse suggests building a robot to save them from the desert- 4 Days Out is Aaron Paul's favorite episode from the series. Speaking of the desert theme, for the entirety of the show. Walt's own bullet taking him out feels almost biblical in how only Jesus himself could take his life at crucifixion like how Walter gets shot in his side. The lab's skeleton form crosshairs over Walter in that final frame (the lab representing an extension of Walter himself) and as the crosshairs begin to form right before that the song lyrics sing "special love I have for you". Walter even mentions Gretchen & Elliot's view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Spanish for "Blood of Christ"). Walt saying a prayer in the opener fits this theme. Walter- Mr. Lambert, is wearing khaki as a call back to his wardrobe from the pilot, his dress pants from the opening scene & Ozymandias with a green shirt for Breaking Bad / the show's periodic table and the inside of his jacket being blue, for well, you know. The show as a whole is lightning in a bottle. Watching it is like watching perfection playout on screen, every episode. It's almost surreal. Jane's theory of the significance of doing the same thing over and over again is very fitting for the show considering you can watch it many many times over and each time is a different and a new experience. There's no better fictional character that has more depth, a greater character arc and superior acting than Bryan Cranston's Walter H. White. They encapsulate the development and metamorphosis of a character with redeeming qualities along the way, so well & so seamlessly that it changes everything else you watch following it. It really is like the perfect drug- the 99.1% pure storytelling. Breaking Bad was released at the perfect time imo between the over all production quality in general, the music at the time, the financial crash of 2008 and for being one of the last politically incorrect shows. This show has an element of magic to it that I have yet to see from any other piece of film. Imo no other series even comes close to BB when you really go through it with a fine-tooth comb. It is exceptional and in a league of its own. Anthony Hopkins, after completing Breaking Bad wrote Bryan Cranston a letter stating his acting was the best he's seen – ever.

Its been a great ride! Thank you!

Just a note to say how much I appreciate how you guys always upload on schedule (and also communicate if an upload is going to be delayed). Your reactions are great, but the consistency is greatly appreciated too!
