So many people talk about how much they love this movie, and so many of you recommended we watch it... and boy are we glad we did! This movie was an absolute riot! Tim Burton's weird style has definitely won us both over AGAIN hahaha.

2024-09-04 03:19:54 +0000 UTCFor Michael Keaton, my favorites are The Paper - 1994 (a terribly under remembered movie) and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - 2014. Both great movies with stellar casts. For Winona Ryder, there are a ton. Girl Interrupted, Heathers, and Mermaids are three of her best. For Geena Davis, my personal favorites are The Long Kiss Goodnight and The Fly.

Also agree with Tremors and The Fifth Element. Classics from my childhood. Amelie is amazing. We watched it in my Art Appreciation class in high school. Sooo beautiful!

Unfortunately the quirkiness i've noticed you specifically like isn't often matched to horror , so i'm going to additionally do some separate suggestions - so anything with a similar flair as Beetlejuice, anything that is good comedic horror, and last a couple that are quirky in a way that you've demonstrated y'all especially enjoy :) Adams Family (probably the most similar in vibe and tone to Beetlejuice; both the first and second one are great) Edward Scissorhands (another one with significant similarities to Beetlejuice but with less frantic energy and some melancholy undertones while still being funny0 Tremors (a classic with an endearing goofiness reminiscent of Gremlins) Coraline (similar visual vibes as Beetlejuice, but one notch creepier and less focus on pure comedy) Zombieland (not quirky at all but extremely funny fusion of comedy and horror in a way few movies manage) Grosse Pointe Blank (kind of quirky, very funny not horror but is about a hit man and has a great take on dark humor) and last, the quirk without the horror but i'm almost positive you'll love Hudsucker Proxy (very funny, like a cross between tom hanks' Big and The Big Lebowski Amelie (french film, don't worry in englysh, super funny in a unique way, whimsical and sweet) Run Lola Run (german film, also in english, unique and strange in a great way) The 5th Element (comedic scifi done so well i'm not sure any other movie feels the same)

You should definitely check out Multiplicity from 1996 for another brilliant role from him. Did you know that Charles is also Principal Rooney from Ferris Bueller's Day Off? :) Some trivia: Tim Burton feared the "Day-O" sequence wouldn't go over well since, in his opinion, it wasn't very funny. Burton turned out to be wrong. Audiences loved it and think of it as one of the film's most iconic scenes. According to Michael Keaton, the Beetlejuice character was described to him by Tim Burton as "having lived in every time period but no time period." Keaton used this as the jumping-off point to create the character with such features as a shock hairdo, mold make-up, and large teeth. He said that when he first showed up to the set as Beetlejuice, the crew was chanting: "Juice, Juice, Juice!" This got Keaton excited for his role. This is also Keaton's favorite film of his own! The idea for the movie came after Poltergeist was a hit movie, but the idea of bad ghosts was flipped. The people who moved into the house would be the awful ones.

I was a bit surprised you didn't realize how comedic Keaton could be. He was known for his comedy before Batman, which is another reason he was such a controversial pick for Batman before the film released. Hard to suggest another film quite in the lane of this one.
