Couldn't agree more!

Hope you guys watch We Stand Alone Together, the real ending. Great reactions, I'm happy you guys learned a lot. Freedom isn't free, and we should thank everyday what all the men sacrificed!!

Haha love the rant! That's so cool about your grandpa... I'm so curious to look back into our family trees now and see if anyone has enlisted!

Chandra

I appreciate the insight into what the show is like, thank you ❤️ I can't imagine something being more brutal than BoB... That was super intense for us!

Chandra

Yes definitely watch the companion documentary We Stand Alone. Sadly all of the men have passed away.

yeesh sorry for the rant, love this stuff though, btw my grandpa came from a little farm in Scotland, enlisted from 1939-1945, and moved to Toronto after the war. He died an old man at Sunnybrooke, you might know it! I bet you wouldn't have to look far to find some connections of your own.

I'm sure people have already mentioned The Pacific (2010). As a bit of a war history (never sure how to put this, fan? enthusiast? buff?) student let's say, I was floored by it. Although my grandpa fought in Europe and the retaking of it (from the western perspective) and it is without a doubt the dominant narrative I'm personally drawn to the "otherness" that was the pacific theatre. Fans of BoB generally find it inferior as it's not as neat and tidy. But as absolute 💯 BoB is, it is a product of Hollywood. And I would say if Saving Private Ryan was the proof of concept (strange to call it that), BoB was the perfect execution, then The Pacific was an attempt to go further in just about every regard. It's even closer to "reality", more brutal, and ultimately without the insulation of Easy. This time...your on your own. Kinda. It's funny if you were to compare it to Tylenol or something people always want the MOST they can handle. The Pacific came out and for many it was too much. So now BoB is the go-to extra strength on the shelf. But for me, it seats right next to BoB.

Oh wow, it would be so incredible to visit those sites ❤️

Chandra

We'd love to if we can make the time!!

Chandra

Yes, that's the exact line that got me 😭❤️ and we're not sure what we're going to do next yet! There's so much to choose from that you've all recommended!

Chandra

scott osborne

Will you be watching the We Stand Alone Together documentary?

Evan

There are a couple of memorials in France for what Easy Co. did during the war. One at Brecourt Manor, where they took out the German guns on D-Day. Also, a privately funded statue dedicated to Major Winters in Normandy. The History Underground is an excellent YouTube channel that travels to actual locations and has several episodes dedicated to the 101st Airborne and Easy Co.
