GOOEYCANDY Newsletter & Updates!✨[FEB2025 - Issue #03]: "Birch & Bowser"

Welcome back for another Gooeycandy Newsletter, where you get up to date with ALL things gooeycandy! Let's dive right in!

🎨 Art & Project Progress:

• Professor Birch Card: I know the poll isn't over yet, but the lead is heavily in Milo and Birch's favor, so I've decided they will be the next two! I started with Birch because I had a strong vision in mind already! Here are some work in progress shots! It’s basically complete, I just need to polish some layers up and make shop thumbnails and some extra stock, so expect this card as well as the full illustration & alts to release quite soon!!

  

  

• Bowser Merch Incoming! I was at a little market and I saw someone using pin buttons in a very unique way, and it gave me an idea, so I put my own spin on it. I'm not usually a fan of buttons, but if I can pull this off I think it'll be pretty neat!! You'll have to wait and see what I mean! Going to try to release this early February, so keep an eye out!

• New Hands On!: More work is being done on Hands On, but it's UI updates for right now that aren't quite presentable! But there will be more info on that surely by the next newsletter!

  As I mentioned before, my programmer got an opportunity he can't turn down, so he's gonna help a bit more with the first title, but I'll soon need to find someone new! If you know anyone who is skilled at Unity/working with 2D assets and may be interested, send them this application please!!

🔎 Current Focuses: 

• Hands On! will be a main priority until this first new title is complete, so continue to expect updates on that!

• The "Best Of" art book is what I'm working on whenever I have downtime/don't feel like drawing. So it's moving slow but steady!

• The next Poke-Man card for Birch will be complete soon, and Milo will be next up!

• New merch concepts for my upcoming convention Barapalooza are in the works! I'll share them once I get some sketches down and get you opinions!

• Who are some of your celebrity crushes?

  I know what kind of guys I'm into, but when I design characters I get stuck in a rut sometimes designing similar dudes! That being said, my current top 3 have to be Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jonathan Bailey & Ross Lynch. 🤭

This section focuses on my personal life & stories, so if that's not your cup of tea, feel free to skip this segment!

It's been quite an interesting 2 weeks. So, I hired my friend who recently got laid off to see if she could help me prepare merch while I work on other projects, and it didn't go as planned. She wasn't quite as fast as expected, and the quality wasn't up to my standards, but that was on me for putting too much on her so quickly. I felt really guilty having to let her go after only a few days, but she understood and took it well. I learned a really hard lesson which is do NOT mix work and friends.

My friends started a DnD campaign (my first one ever)! We've really just made the characters so far, but I'm pretty excited to get the ball rolling!! My character is a snarky little punk skeptic pickpocket. Maybe I'll share some doodles of him at some point on here.

I also went on my first sort-of date since things ended with my boyfriend. It was really nice and casual, which is all I think I can handle right now haha. He's got a really pretty and intense stare. And he plays soccer so that BUTT is 👌✨!

ALSO also also, my dodgeball league started this week! It's a draft season, and somehow I ended up on a STACKED team of scary good players. I'm ok knowing I'm the personality hire of my team lol but I had a lot of fun regardless. Good shot of placing high this season, and maybe I can learn a thing or two!

FINALLY...Watching Severance, Dark, Traitors US, Deal Or No Deal Island and Hacks right now lmaoooo (revealing that I'm reality TV trash) so if anyone want to chat a bit about those meet me in the comments lol. (Except Hacks and Dark I'm only 2 seasons into those so no spoilies)
