As Chris pointed out, that just put every advanced economy across the world on notice that China is not a benign/benevolent entity. Further, their stranglehold on Rare Earths has now become "a critical national security and economic security threat" which means China just made a strong case for why other nations need to look at imposing targeted and permanent tariffs on all Chinese Rare Earths, and products using Chinese Rare Earths irrespective of nation of origin... On "a reasonable and prudent time frame" for other international supply chains to ramp up. Although I lack confidence on the broader international community having the will to follow through on such a plan, and the international mining/refining interests likewise aren't likely to move with much speed for the same reason. Because the risk is they spend billions of dollars building out a production chain to meet expected needs.. Only for Chinese Rare Earth products to be allowed back into those markets at a price point that will bankrupt their own rare earth operations(and possibly selling at a loss to China as well, but that's what bottomless Chinese high finance is for).... Because other business interests will want and lobby for the cheaper Chinese option "because its cheaper."
