When I first met Kelly Eden, I had no idea she was internet-famous. Like, REALLY internet-famous. Having pink hair and some mad crafting skillz will do that, I'spose.
When I met Kelly, it was on the set of a band photo shoot. The singer had brought her along to do his makeup. I remembered seeing her photos online and mentioned to her that I'd love to shoot her sometime.
We met a few months later for a very early morning shoot in the fog. While the photos gained a lot of attention online, it wasn't really how I imagined shooting her.
Six months later, Kelly posts a photo of her bedroom, a gorgeous pastel fairyland of a room with her roommate's two hairless cats. There it was; THAT was how I wanted to shoot Kelly.
I wrote to her immediately. "Let's shoot at your house!" She agreed and I headed over there the very next day.
Kelly's house is not unlike walking into Disneyland. Every wall is painted pastel. The kitchen is full of Hello Kitty-themed appliances and candy jars. The dining room is framed with a full sized carousel horse. It was the perfect place to capture this cotton candy princess.
The shoot lasted less than an hour. We snapped 3 rooms worth of material to send on for a cover/editorial for Plenilune Magazine. Her cats even got in on the action, resulting in one of my favorite shots of the day (as seen above).
It was the kind of shoot you can't really plan for, the just come along and all you can do is grab your camera and go on gut instinct to capture what you can when the opportunity avails itself.
And really, those are my favorite times to shoot.
Technical Details: Shot with a Canon 7D with a 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 lenses. Lit with natural daylight.
