update Feb 12th: The full version of this story is now available, same link and password as below. I initially branded this as a 'part 1' but what was going to be part 2 just ended up being rolled all together for one complete story as I mentioned I might do.

It's now one of my longest stories (~22k words), and has it's ups and downs, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Patrons on discord were able to follow along as I updated it in parts/scenes over the course of last week, and I had done that with another story recently and find that style fun, if a little haphazard. I'll need to make a proper editing pass on this one at some point, but since it's so long, I'm not sure when I'll have a good time to dedicate to that, so forgive me if you happen across any minor errors.

This part is mostly set up, but I think there's already enough fun to chew on speculatively/predictively while I work on the second half. There's a real chance that I'll need more time than I have to finish the second part (since I'll be tied up with an IRL event from this coming thurs. through mon.), so I'm releasing this first part now. Either way, I plan to get the second half done and added to this story's page no later than by the end of the first week of February. The password won't change once the second half is out, though I'll make another patreon post announcing it.
