Added 2023-04-24 20:45:29 +0000 UTCSorry it's not what I said would be next, but I tend to be most productive following wherever my inspiration takes me, even if that can be a bit rambling and unfocused. Or, rather than apologizing, I should say thank you to everyone who sticks with me despite this bad habit.
Anyway, regarding this story, anyone following the current season's anime may recognize the theme, but it's influence was only for the scenario flavor - the core concept is something I think I've played with a few times, but never quite got to my satisfaction, so I've been wanting to revisit it for a while, and only now was inspired with a proper context to attach to it. Whether this work properly scratches that itch or not... also remains to be seen. ^^;;
The ending is a little abrupt, but after some brainstorming, I couldn't really come up with anything more than what I ended up with that was meaningful and that I liked, so I left it with a touch of ambiguity. As I left it, I had three possible explanations in mind and none felt more valid or preferable to me than the others, so readers can infer whichever they want, or find other explanations I may not have considered.
Well, that's enough rambling from me. I have Dungeon Slimes' final part already half drafted, so I should be able to push that out by the end of the week if not sooner.
