New Video - What the HELL is The Pilgrim's Progress?

Comments

Gosh...who would've imagined that the man who created Five Nights at Freddy's and made it a pop culture phenomenon was once responsible for a movie and game based on The Pilgrim's Progress? Having watched the movie with you during one of your recent streams, it was...well, the movie was quite the experience. We have monsters that wouldn't look too out of place in a FNAF game, we have a story that's so on the nose, it's breathtaking; and we have a protagonist that basically dies at the start of the movie, with the rest of the film showing a flashback of his adventures. It is interesting that Scott virtually did this movie all by himself, though that doesn't mean the movie itself is a masterpiece that can stand alongside the best of Disney, Pixar, etc. The Pilgrim's Progress game, meanwhile, is interesting in its own right, basically being an extension of the movie, albeit with some changes made for reasons unknown to me (i.e. making Faithful a male when the character was a female in the movie). While it may not be an RPG that rivals Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, or any other iconic RPG, it still has some interesting mechanics such as using Grace Spam, Faith Bombs, etc. during combat and gaining experience from helping people. Plus, the monsters here clearly show the type of designs that would become commonplace in the FNAF series. I rather enjoyed seeing you play through the game on Twitch, even if the final boss proved to be practically impossible for you to beat with your hero's current levels. By the way, your Pilgrim's Progress playthrough inspired me to download the game myself (and it was still on sale at that point, so I reckon I got a pretty decent deal). It's a decent game for the reasons I mentioned, and I have also endeavored to complete as many of the optional side quests as possible (this includes defeating a series of super hard, yet optional bosses, including-get this-a super powerful Souldozer!). While the game is pretty decent overall, I do have some legitimate complaints. Some of the quests require backtracking, which sometimes takes way too long...there should have been some sort of fast travel system in place to cut down on the backtracking. Also, having to go through the same areas over and over to complete a quest can become tedious, and one optional challenge-which has you jumping over a swamp without falling in-is quite annoying, as while most of the jumps are simple to make, a couple of them are almost impossible: you pretty much have to jump at the last possible second, and even then, you might just barely make it. Still, I have enjoyed my playthrough for the most part...in fact, as of this writing, I am nearly done with the game, with just a couple of more quests and the final boss to deal with. I might replay the game on a harder difficulty in the future (maybe not right away, as soon I'll be focusing on playing Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which will take me a while), but we shall see. Now onto my thoughts on the video: having watched it yesterday afternoon, I found it to be yet another top-notch video from you. It was fun to hear your thoughts on the movie and the game, and some of the notable differences between the two. The new editor, Henri, continues to shine with his editing techniques and the jokes and special touches that he adds to your videos (I mentioned this on Discord, but that guy's a keeper, for sure!). I especially love your Twitch plugs, and I do hope that they inspire more people to follow your Twitch channel ( they really should because, having caught the majority of your streams live at this point-only missing out on days where I have to work and/or I have other prior commitments-it's fun to see you do everything from checking out the subreddit posts, to talking about future videos, to playing Fall Guys, to just shooting the breeze with your viewers). In short, the video was worth the wait, and just like the Veggietales video, it serves as another shining example that your videos-as awesome as they already were-are getting even better. I can't wait to see what you plan on sharing with us all next! Thanks for sharing another top notch video with us, Saber...I shall see you again soon! Until then, take care! =)
