Just wanting to get some of these thoughts out.

My current plan is to have it be a smuggling story for the first book. If it becomes a series, then I can get going with a deeper plot, but it is good when doing a story to establish the world as it currently sits. To set the status quo and get all the pieces in place. Start small, build towards something bigger.

So a smuggling story to start. Someone hires the crew to transport some goods discretely to a different location, things go wrong on the way, but the crew manages to get the shipment to its destination and get paid.

I have not worked out all the details, but seeing how the sausage gets made is a benefit of being a patron.

Anyways, I think the person that hires the heroes of the story will be a planetary governess. So the highest authority on the planet, but I think it will be a world out on the edges of civilized space so low population with only a small portion of the planet currently inhabited. And the governess is a vampire to establish this is a sci-fi with fantasy elements. And how such things will be treated in this story.

Show the gray morality by having the vampire feed in front of the heroes, but have the feeding be done in a consensual, business like manner. The way I’m seeing it is that one of the servants pulls back a sleeve to reveal a device hooked up around an artery that allows blood to flow on command. So a glass can be filled for the vampire when needed. This a vampire on the edges of civilization making pretend at being as civilized as possible in how they feed, despite literally feeding on the blood of those under her.

So, that would be an early scene, still need a bunch more scenes and how to connect them for the book.
