Free Ostenwold Module for Foundry VTT

Hi Everyone!

I am very excited to announce the launch of my free Ostenwold module for Foundry VTT! This module provides my Ostenwold town setting, a complete and vibrant town for use in fantasy roleplaying game systems. The module includes 60 battlemaps, covering 14 different and exciting locations in and around the town of Ostenwold. These maps are pre-configured with walls and lighting to be game-ready, so you can jump right in to use them for your next adventure. Furthermore, the module also includes a set of cross-linked Journal Entries which describe a possible storyline that could play out in Ostenwold, with descriptions of all the locations the party could encounter.

Installation

All Foundry Virtual Tabletop license owners may install this module (available in the Module browser) which provides these maps and journal entries. Once installed the content will be immediately available for use in your game sessions through the compendium packs it provides. You can find this content pack and others on the Foundry VTT website under the "Exclusive Content" section of the Systems and Modules menu: https://foundryvtt.com/packages/exclusive

About Foundry VTT

For those of you who aren't yet familiar, Foundry Virtual Tabletop (FVTT for short) is an application built specifically for experiencing multiplayer tabletop roleplaying games with your friends and party members over the internet. FVTT works using modern web technologies where one player (the host) runs an application which hosts the game server and other players can connect using a web browser. As a "virtual tabletop", the software provides a set of digital tools which are designed to imitate and expand upon the experience of playing a game in-person with your friends. Support for character sheets, rolling dice, exploring battlemaps, and moving heroic tokens are just a few of the many features which enable this experience. Foundry Virtual Tabletop goes well beyond the basic feature set, however, with rich dynamic lighting, fog of war, audio playlists, video chat using webcams, and way more. FVTT gives you everything you need (and then some) to forge thrilling and memorable moments with your gaming group!

Hello, i'm new in Patroen. I like to start a campaign with your ostenwold town-set. Is there a chance to find a unnamed playerversion Town map? Thanks

Gryfenhain

Hi Ian, no problem. The easiest way to install the exclusive Foundry packages is actually within the Foundry app itself. Go to Add on Modules, Install module at the bottom left, then search for the package you want to install or browse through them. Choose the one you want and press install. It's a little confusing from the website, as there is no direct install link from there, it is just a gallery showing what is available to license holders.

Hi Tom, I'm very new to patreon and dnd (this is all a new hobby for me) so apologies if I'm asking tired questions. I know how to add modules from the Bazaar on Foundry, but haven't got a clue how to activate this content from https://foundryvtt.com/packages/exclusive. Can you tell me what I'm missing/how to do it please? Many thanks. I love all your work.

It was Tom's Patreon that got me to finally pull the trigger on buying Foundry. I enjoy DMing, but I don't like all the setup with maps that is required. Tom's maps with Foundry make for an easy experience as DM, and a very immersive experience for players, since they aren't used to being told "whatever you can see, you can see." Only possible with the high quality maps this guy puts out.

Fortunately the Multi-Level Token module can help solve this by providing teleport points on the map itself. It's really slick.

FYI it looks like the Teleport module is not working well with the latest versions of Foundry (0.7.7, 0.7.8). For some reason Teleport causes token vision refresh issues (recent versions of Foundry changed a lot about how lighting and fog of war layers work).

Hi Corin, You can do all of that in Foundry and more. Its not D&D, or even TTRPG exclusive. Lots of people already make great customised mods that you can install and the API is very accessible. If you want to learn more, the Foundry Discord is the best place to go: https://discord.gg/CGA8eR

There's possibly a better place to ask this on the Foundry site, but while we're on the subject... I run an Exalted chronicle at the moment on Roll20, with a pretty extensive API to help with rolls and a character sheet of my own design... does Foundry have support for that kind of thing? Is it only D&D?

You provide this stuff just to bring traffic to your patreon.... And it worked, and I'm now a patron!!! :-)

Bryce

Just to be clear, the import did work. I got your teleport links and journal entries, just not the scenes.

Urikslargda [Aubrey McAuley]

This got me to become a patron after I saw it on the Foundry site. I'm doubly pleased to find your work! One question: when I imported your module, no scenes were created. Seems like I might be missing a lot of your work this way. Do you have any idea what might cause this issue? I did already have a couple of scenes created when I added yours to my my world. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Michael, it's a one time purchase

Tom Cartos

Is the Foundry Software a one time purchase or an Annual Subscription? I've been looking on their website and can't find anything that specifies... I might not be seeing it either if it there.

Michael

I'll be buying Foundry next week, and would love to see more maps, especially similar ones in concept to Ostenwold (local area with surrounding adventuring sites).

Funny wasn't i just talking about this? Your a sly one Tom! 🀣

Thanks for doing this Tom!

So glad you decided to work with Atropos and Foundry! It's so good software, easily moddable. I am developing modules (plugins if you want) for it, and it's super easy to mod it. For me it's currently the top VTT on the market. Core is pretty simplistic, but that is it's beauty, but when you slap in some game modules like DND5e or WFRP4e and some modules, it becomes a beast that no other VTT can fight. I'm happy for all the recognition Foundry gets <3

Foundry is an amazing tool. Coming from being a pro subscriber on Roll20 I could not be happier with the software; simply amazing. Combined with maps/assets of the caliber Tom is putting out and... WATCH OUT! I also wanted to point out that not only are the free maps (on FVTT) from Tom already setup with dynanmic lighting, but also doors that can be opened and shut by your players!! Sublime art with an awesome VTT makes playing a blast!

I found out about Foundry just a couple of days after dropping a ton of cash on Fantasy Grounds. I like Fantasy Grounds, but I also see a lot of good potential in Foundry and would like to play around with it. This could be a great opportunity since I'm not in a position to purchase a second VTT license so soon! Thanks!

Craig Shackleton

Sweet! Just in the process of moving over to Foundry from roll20 myself. Definitely a great tool with an awesome community around it

Erlend Aakre

Could have used that on roll20 when I had to setup lighting for all the maps lol great to see you working with Foundry. Now I really need to buy a license if you're with them. :)
