LANCER — A Long Winter

Well well well, if it isn't that time of the year again, folks! After skipping 2024's Yearly Patreon Post — the arrival of a new edition of a certain d20 roleplaying game put paid to any potential for exploration past those poxed prime pastures — we're back at it with some more LANCER.

In an attempt to pick back up where I left off, I...

LANCER? I hardly knew 'er!

Greetings guys gals and nb pals, we're back once again, with the Yearly Patreon Post (2023) (Delayed).

This time, we dip our toes into LANCER, in which I recently ran the short "adventure" Operation Solstice Rain. Over the duration, I bashed out various bits and pieces (some more serious than others) to spice up the experienc...

In The Grim Darkness of the Far Future...

...there is Giddy's Yearly Patreon Post (2022) (Delayed). Hope it finds you well.

I "recently" (Winter 2022) ran a Deathwatch oneshot using the Dark Heresy system for Foundry, and cooked up a couple of visual bit...

Giddy's Battlemap(s): The Module

Howdy y'all, long time no see. I come to you today with a battlemap I cooked up for a one-shot; a clifftop mansion split across four map "levels" (basement, ground floor, first floor, roof), riddled with secret passageways, and, should you download and install the accompanying Foundry module, ready(-ish) for use in Foundry!

Note that this map was tailor-made for my game/purposes, so YMMV. The s...

Obligatory Yearly Post: A 4e Module?

Greetings and salutations, and Happy New Year to those stuck using the Gregorian calendar!

As usual, all the interesting day-to-day activity and updates can be found in the #announcements and/or #changelogs channels in our Discord, so this post is something a bit different.

Aside: For those of you with no love for "D&D: Tactics," fear not, normal service will resume shortly. This was my for-fun project over my Christmas break. Rest assured that I do not intend to become a ...

Foundry Character Builder: Alpha Testing

Pictured: the tool in action (restricted to a PR-friendly content set, of course!)

The first version of a much-sought-after addition to a certain tool is now available to any Patrons brave enough to give it a try. A link to the download, as well as the current project roadmap, is available in the usual #court of esteemed nobles channel in Discord (accessible to Patrons only).

Actual Content

As a break from our usual scheduled programming of complete radio silence, today I present to you a little bonus content. A PVP arena one-shot map and module for Foundry VTT!

This is a yearly event I try to do for my players (ex-players, really, at this stage), wherein I make them pay an entry fee just to get destroyed in a single turn by some overpowered combo. They seem to enjoy it all the sa...

November has Come

Figure it's been enough of a wait since my last post, so I'll let y'all cool subscribers in on some of what's going on behind the scenes at Tools, Inc.

I hope that those of you that are interested in changes to the site/Plutonium keep up-to-date via the #changelogs channel in our Discord server, but either way, the burst of activity there towards the end of October was to get Plutonium to a good level of compatibility with Foundry 0.7.5. To my knowledge (and please correct me, pre...

[EDIT] As of 24/05/2020, Plutonium is free. For the moment, you can find it in the "#announcements" channel of our Discord, and it will eventually be available via the "get." page.

Long time no see.

As the Foundry hype train continues to pick up steam on its way to "full release" station, I thought it pertinent to drop the instructions on how to get at Plutonium here, rather than every third person messaging me directly to ask.

As a Patron, if you connect yo...

A Man on the Run

TL;DR: unimportant ramblings.

As an aside and an apology, this post is long overdue, but I've lazy and/or unwilling to kick the hornets nest.

The reason for the drop in activity here on Patreon, is that Hasbro's goons kicked down my front door, shot my dog, and ran off with a half-ounce of oregano from my kitchen claiming it as evidence. As such, my lawyers advised I remove all material that might be seen as copyright-infringing from the page, lest it be shut down. So I d...

Group Up and Go

TL;DR: watch the gif.

So the mystery feature I alluded to in last week's post ate most of my coding time this weekend, as the solution I thought I had turned out to be awful and unmaintainable and I had to rewrite everything. It happens.

This feature, though, is a "grouping/tagging" system, whereby you can assign spells/items/features(/possible more things in future) to user-defined groups, and have them show up on the main screen of the sheet.

These groups ca...

Lods of Emone

(Title reference)

So while I did a lot more playing of D&D than writing software for it this past week/end, I did get a small demo-friendly component* of the character sheet (mostly) done; gifs below**.

Eat Sleep Code Repeat

TL;DR: Small Plutonium update; 5etools is now faster; diary = empty, so we're getting back on the character sheet grind.*

Another week gone, and what a week it has been.

In Foundry news, a small update; Plutonium v0.0.3e. This includes:

  • The "import" button should now be available on any sheet, rather than those I manually specify
  • The import list "select all" checkbox now only selects/deselects visible rows
  • An update to background importing to...

A Coat of Red Paint

So we come to the end of another weekend. Mine was relatively distraction-free, and so I was able to spend a good amount of it deep in the lab--and after I was finished sodomizing my dog, I got plenty work done besides.

Firstly, a minor-though-critical update to Plutonium, v0.0.3d, which includes:

  • Fresh compendium dumps, with Descent Into Avernus content.
  • Updated Bestiary files, again to add Descent Into Avernus content.
  • A fix for imported creatures a...

Your Wires Are Showing

...and here's Plutonium v0.0.3c, containing:

  • A fix for AC sources being a mess of HTML on non-default sheets
  • A fix for all the strange numbers appearing down the right-hand-side of import lists
  • A fix for the CR Scaler dialogue being a funny size sometimes

Do keep the issue reports coming.

Peace~

More Than 99 Problems

<Obligatory lich pun> <Skip to paragraph 4 for the start of actual content>

So we've cracked 100 patrons, which is both humbling and unexpected. Big thanks to you all; without your valuable patronage, my bank account would contain less money.

Checking in with another status report, here's Plutonium v0.0.3a for all you cool Foundry people out there. This update includes:

  • A folder picker UI in the importer, including a (limited) range of "dynamic" options, i.e. if you select "Challenge Rating" in the creature importer, it'll put each creature in a folder according to their CR. Something similar existed in <removed>, although it was nowhere near as customizable--this iteration allows full control. Sadly, Foundry onl...

Compendium Change Concepts Confuse Concerned Citizens

A quick'n'dirty Plutonium update as my weekend has once again been monopolised by that annoying "real life" thing: version 0.0.3 comes with creatures, spells, and items pre-loaded to the compendium for your browsing pleasure. In addition, "Variant & Optional Rules" may now be imported to the journal.

The compendium additions I'm not yet entirely happy with, but I'd like to see feedback on this first incarnation before doing anything further. There are a few options I'm considering, ...

Foundry v0.3.5 Compatibility

The improved data validation in the latest version of Foundry breaks Plutonium's creature import, so here's update 0.0.2d which takes care of that.

Meanwhile in <removed> news, work on the character sheet progresses. As mentioned in the last update, I didn't have a whole lot of weekend available to work on it, but what time I could scrape together I spent on the "spells" section. It's still pretty ugly, so I'll save you the WIP pics, but suffice to say it lets you add spells to yo...

No Face, No Case

A small Plutonium update; version 0.0.2c now includes a configuration editor which contains a grand total of one (1) option, Streamer Mode. Here are the effects:

<image removed>

While currently not much to look at, the config editor is built in such a way that it's trivially easy to add more options down the line, so including all the myriad toggles and switches which will inevitably be requested should be no issue.

Currently, all config settings are "global," su...

That Awkward Moment When You Both Try to Go Through the Door at the Same Time

So as it turns out, Foundry has a problem* with doing many things at the same time (specifically, concurrent entity creation triggered by client events). In the case of Plutonium, this manifests as items/spells/etc. swapping their descriptions, becoming un-deletable, and all kinds of other fun things if you import too many (read: more than two) things from one import list at the same time.

While I did discover this issue earlier in development, I didn't quite put in en...

Slightly Higher-Grade Plutonium

A small update, because there's already been plenty of feedback on the module--critically, that getting the thing to load involves arcane rituals and prayer to the dark gods.

Thanks to the sleuthing efforts of the fine folks in the #plutonium-issues channel on Discord, the probable source of this issue has been tracked down. I'm having difficulty reproducing it myself (i.e., have literally never seen it happen), so I'm not all that confident in my fix, but the only way fo...

Addendum: Demo Reel & Instructions

<images removed>

An important part of writing posts at 1am is forgetting to include the stuff you set out to include in the first place, like demo gifs and READMEs.

See pics related for an idea of what the module offers; you can import homebrew creatures, spells, feats, and items to the actor/item collections, as well as importing spells/items/backgrounds/races/feats/classes/subclasses to character sheets.

There's a couple of handy cleaner tools included besides,...

Patron Rewards, Round One

With the first round of payments all settled, I now feel obligated to make your subscriptions to this humble Patreon at least somewhat worthwhile.
