As a young man in his 20s who tries to go back and play older stuff, it's not that Morrowind "held up" but rather I think that Morrowind has novel concepts in its story and gameplay, and/or things you would've liked to seen expanded on cause you know if the team was capable of it in 2003 they should've been able to do it again in 2011. I'm not gonna review the whole fucking franchise but take the Mages Guild vs House Telvanni two rival factions you can join, both with different ways of gaining ranks in the factions and is not related to the main quest of Morrowind at all. Skyrim had this in the civil war but you were pretty much just doing the same objectives of taking over forts and killing the guys who wore different colors than you. Anyways that's very bastardized short version of a observation that can go on for hours, but I personally love delving into old games, just trying to find out what the hell I'm supposed to be doing in a world people made a long time ago. (Haven't played Baldurs Gate 3 yet, but has started the first one instead because I'm unhinged)
