Des: “No, freshman year we were focused on American literature, The Color Purple, Catcher In the Rye, Huckleberry Finn…” 😳. James Fenimore Cooper was the most celebrated, famous, and frankly wealthy American author of the early 19th century. The Last of the Mohicans is considered his masterpiece. Love the cinematography and music of this movie, and Daniel Day Lewis and Madeline Stowe, of course. Your comments at the end summed up well some of the movie’s shortcomings and Fenimore Cooper’s literature. Although that is judging him by our 21st century sensibilities, which may be unfair. Michael Mann was still developing some of his style. Just saw his really awful first, or at least early, film The Keep. Mohicans is head and shoulders above that! Really appreciated your comments and reactions.
