Free VaM Enviro: The Ship
Added 2019-09-30 08:10:10 +0000 UTCHere's a initial released version of the ship environment ive been tinkering with. I might expand on it in the future because there is alot of things you could experiment with a scene like this. Sadly the interior part i planned didnt work out, not because of technical issues but rather aestethic - the interior just looked too crappy and out of place. Things like this happen when dealing with free assets from different authors. Heres whats in this released version:

- Ship model with collision on all meshes (slightly off in places though..).
- Separate ocean and cage assets if you want to just use them in other scenes.
- 3 cute crew members to play with. (default Ren models from 1.18, theyre pretty!)
- An interactive cage for unruly crew members, you can open and close the door with the UI button on the side of the cage.
- Ambient sound ( 2 water/ocean sounds, wood creaking and sound for the cage animation)
- For ReShade users, a tweaked new profile specifically for this enviro.
Some notes and additional info:
- You can disable the ship wave motion by pausing/removing the atom AP_Ship. Or improve and tweak by changing it.
- You can adjust all sounds by their controllers (named Audio_xxx).
- Remove persons atoms if its too much, theyre named PRS_xxx. My cpu is an i5 and gpu 1070ti and this scene runs at an somewhat acceptable 45 FPS for me with everything in it.
- Persons hair quality is set to "Fast". Set them to "Quality" if your PC can handle it.
- All persons joints are set to "Control", it was the only way i could prevent them from moving all over the place when saving the scene.. weird issue that moving. I hope they load correctly and not exploded into some mesh. It seems to occur a bit randomly.
- The water shader is just a flat plane with moving height/normal maps, there is no real wave physics or depth to it. The shader should work in VR but i cant test sadly.
- There is loads of lights in the scene. If you want the look of the pics youll need to max out pixel light sources in VaM preferences.
- The wave visibilty is controlled by two directional lights. They can only be lit this way and in directions where there is no directional light theyre hard to see.
- The cage doors open up and down instead of outward. Its a new revolutionary technique! (or just way easier to animate..). You can do a proper door animation if you wish though, the animation is done in VaM not Unity.
- I noticed in the last minute that the roughness of the PBR materials is kinda way off. Too shiny. I might adjust that later. For now you have to imagine the ship just came out of a rainstorm.. :D
I hope everything works and let me know if there are any breaking issues. Im specifically curious on if and how this works in VR. I intend to get myself a VR set and optimize all content for VR only in the future.
To install download the zip and place all files according to the structure in your VaM install. Load the scene VamShipScene ingame, it can take a while because its quite large scene. (15 seconds on my SSD).

2019-09-30 21:04:12 +0000 UTCIm working on the getting VR part, i really really want to start working in VR mode with VAM. Especially scenes and animation, i kind of hesitate to make that kind of content right now since i dont know how it will work with VR. Getting there though especially with the insanely generous support ive recieved here on Patreon. :)

2019-09-30 16:46:33 +0000 UTCThanks for the files, off to check it out very soon! Can't believe you dont have VR yet, VR and real time animation are where VAM shines, without those, you can get everything else, much, much better with Daz Studio
