EP 347 After Hours: What in the Skeletor Vibes and Matching Merch

Welcome to this week's After Hours where we are shocked we remembered what we said we'd cover this week! So today Christine tells us about some of the current active serial killers in the U.S. including the West Mesa Bone Collector, the Long Island Serial Killer, The Eastbound Strangler, The River City Ripper and The Chicago Strangler. Then you get a little sneak peek into our mental illness with our chat about saving our merch. We just want to save our OG designs okay!

Comments

I grew up in the same area as BTK (Wichita, then Wellington), and was working as a nurse in the same city when he was finally caught. I also worked with his psychiatrist during the trial. To tell you we all lived in fear for decades is an understatement. The amount of serial killers that came from that area was unreal. During college I lived down the road from the Carr brothers. As a kid I lived a few blocks from Nancy Shoemaker. That area is still dangerous, despite being in BFE Kansas

Here’s a more recent article about the possible connection between those 4 victims https://abcnews.go.com/US/oregon-investigators-update-reports-serial-killer-da-now/story?id=101345491 And another about the possible suspect (who from my reading of this and similar articles, isn’t very well connected, he was released early from a sentence for stealing a car bc he was used as a wildfire fighter while in prison &people are trying to point to that &connect him to the deaths in order to smear [tiny] prison reform efforts [like not using prisoners’ slave labor for life threatening work like wildfire fighting and laundering hospital linens]) https://www.opb.org/article/2023/08/04/investigation-4-women-killed-oregon-early-prison-release-debate/

There’s another one active in Portland, OR that’s mostly just been active this summer 😔 also mostly sex workers and houseless people, and unfortunately one of the victims has yet to be identified because all they have is a sketch recreation of her. Last I heard police no longer believed all were connected, but more recent articles are saying 4 may have been connected to one person, but it sounds to me like the probability of that person being the killer is somewhat low https://abc7news.com/portland-murders-women-dead-serial-killer-speculation-warning-oregon/13355789/

Also - I think I feel less safe in the woods than in the city! LOL

LISK podcast is a decent one to listen to - season 2 and 3 are a little clunky recording-wise, but great information and I love that the guy who has been getting this message out there (he started before anyone knew who the killer might be!) is trying to highlight the lives of the sex workers as HUMAN F U C K I N G beings.
