CABARET! React Series PART TWO

Comments

My grandma(90's) brought me and one of her friends(80's) to see a local comunity production of this show blind which was a hell of a pull. Apparently she thought her friend knew about the show, she didn't lmao i loved it but felt awkward about seeing it with them not knowing that the show was queer normally or that my grandmother DID know what we were going to. As others mentioned though germany was very accepting for the time before nazi's came to power, they had some of the best advances in sexual health and research before they burned it down.

I believe that Noblezada did play in this on Broadway, but not with Adam Lambert. His Sally was Auli'i Cravalho. I saw it with them in January, and it was terrific - especially Lambert, who knocked it out of the park.

I hope this doesn't feel too much like a spoiler, as I don't think it will be, but I have to point out that you're a bit off the mark about the issue of same-sex relations as relates to this show. It's actually set during the Weimar Republic, which was the government that preceded the Third Reich. The Weimar Republic was quite progressive in many ways, and the climate for gay people was unusually permissive in relation to the rest of the world. The way you see the Emcee being so suggestive would not have been out of place during that time. In many ways, Germany in the late 20s and early 30s was seen as quite decadent. Also - you're quite right to feel some sense of dread, though I certainly won't tell you WHY! Lastly, I have to say that I think this show, even without the legacy, would be very successful in today's media climate. I think when you see where it's going you'll understand why I say that.

Eva noblezada (Hadestown) and her now husband Reeve Carney (Hadestown) just starred in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on the West End and she was just in the one on Broadway with Adam Lambert I think? It is still running on the West End.
