LOL predates Tiktok by a good bit, and the song is heavily inspired by Lily Allen and Avril Lavigne - not so much Gen Z as my exact millennial teen years (the composers pull from that era of pop a lot throughout). I do see what you mean, but I don't think the assessment is quite right!

2025-10-02 06:31:08 +0000 UTCAs far as controversial language in music and theater historically, it certainly was different but I don't think it's anywhere as simplistic as we say things now that would have been scandalous then, for instance Mozart famously wrote a piece called "lick me in the ass" (leck mich im arsch), Shakespeare plays were full of dirty innuendos (eg the word nothing in the title much ado about nothing was slang at the time for female genetalia), and go another hundred years and you'll get the banned play "Sodom, the quintessence of debauchery" where literally every character name has a swear in it
