You joke at the start about how not a lot of people are looking for this meanwhile I've been searching up reactions to this every few months to see if there are any, even if you're an instrument person and I'm a lyric person and that becomes frustrating i still joined for this lmao

Here's the link to the captioned video: https://www.captionfy.com/video/youtube/0hvCd41o7Bs?c=en-us In a pre-Broadway version of this show, the duel scene actually had a brief musical reference to the Ten Duel Commandments from Hamilton (the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 melody line). But it was cut in the Broadway version. Ironically, despite this and the “Hamilton ripoff” comments, this show came out before Hamilton. The first production of The Great Comet was in 2012; Hamilton first premiered in 2015. The through line in this show takes some time to become clear. I think that Dust and Ashes (the last song in this video) is a key hint, and a turning point in Pierre's arc. Despite this, the song didn't exist for much of the show’s history before Broadway; it was written with Josh Groban in mind. But before it became this big Broadway show, the show’s interpretation of Pierre was originally written to suit the creator, Dave Malloy (hence particular details like playing the accordion and piano). And he didn't really want himself to be the main focus, despite the title of the show. But Josh Groban - and especially his vocals - provided this opportunity to flesh out Pierre's character a bit more musically and thematically.
