It's so easy to see why Angela Lansbury won a Tony for this. Her performance is really incredible. It's got everything - the vocals are strong, her comedy is on point, she's wacky and wild in her characterization, she's moving when she needs to be, and her energy would be remarkable for a woman half her age. Legend!

2025-10-25 03:00:08 +0000 UTCTo be fair, there was a hint towards her motivations in "My Friends" near the beginning of the musical where she sings "always had a fondness for you, I did." And if you'll notice in "Poor Thing" (the song right before that one), she sings that there was a barber and his wife "and HE was beautiful" which contrasts Sweeney singing SHE was beautiful. She also speaks very condescendingly of Lucy later in the song; as an example, "did she use her head even then? Oh no, God forbid." So it's kind of implied from the start that she has a love for Sweeney and is jealous of his wife Lucy. But anywho, I'm really enjoying your videos! I'm a new Sweeney Todd fan and a huge reason I subscribed to your Patreon was because YouTube took down the Sweeney reactions past like the third video. But I will certainly be sticking around for more! ❤️
