However Wong Kar Wai was born in Shanghai, not British Hong Kong. He immgranted from Shanghai. In the book of Wong Kar Wai cinematic world*, it was stated that one of the reason that his movies are always about longing because Wong Kar Wai himself feels out of place in Hong Kong as immigrant. *I'm not sure if that book exists an English version, so I just direct translate the meaning of the Cantonese title

2025-07-25 01:26:46 +0000 UTCHi, I am from Hong Kong and Cantonese is my mother language. I think the dialogues in Chungking Express feel pretty natural to me. However it gets way too melodramatic during In the mood for Love. Just my personal opinion.
