The time has come :[
Added 2020-04-26 12:14:11 +0000 UTCHello to all of you, my lovely Patrons.
(This is a bit of a long post, but there is some very important information below)
I sincerely hope that everyone is keeping well and staying safe with everything that is going on currently. We're doing ok here. I'm filling my time completing A Book of Supernatural History (which is now ready for physical production, as soon as I can start that up), and The Potioneer's Pocketbook - Part 1 (the last few illustrations will be finished in the next few weeks). I am also working on The Potioneer's Pocketbook - Part 2 and Perfecting Potions as well... not to mention the board game, and two other as-yet-unmentioned book projects that might, or might not see the light in the coming months/years!
Sadly, this is not a happy post. After my last post regarding this issue, I have decided that I will no longer be sharing my Harry Potter replica pages via Patreon, nor via any other online platform. I need to explain a few things about this, so please read on if you'd like to know more.
Firstly:
Many of you may know that a while back, I decided to share a full password-protected PDF of my Advanced Potion Making replica page content for everyone's personal use. This PDF was not high quality, but good enough for online reading and printing to make your own pages if you so wished. I had kept it in good faith that people would be kind enough not to take advantage of this beyond the bounds of what I had asked - print and share for personal use is fine, but no re-uploading or selling. Sadly, within a month or so, it was clear that this faith had been misplaced in a select few.
For some time since, books and pages have been popping up on eBay, Etsy, and other online sources where my work (primarily Advanced Potion Making, but not solely) has been being sold, either in full or in part, by people who either do not mention the original maker, or worse, claim to be me outright. Most of these items stem from the full PDF I shared (I marked the pages in a unique way, so I could tell if such a thing happened), but others are scans/copies/reproductions of my work. A good example of this is a copy of Hogwarts: A History that has surfaced where my page design and content (that has nothing to do with any design used in an official prop) has been copied word for word, albeit poorly. There have also been cases where some pages from my yet-to-be-released 'A Book of Supernatural History' have been put up for sale. These specific pages were only shared here on Patreon.
In short, until such a time as these existing sellers are stopped, and new ones stop appearing, I will not be sharing my work online. I cannot tell you how sad this makes me, especially at a time of crisis like this, where I'm sure they would have been most appreciated.
NOTE - I want to raise the subject, as I'm sure some, if not all of you are aware. Much of my replica work falls under copyright restrictions by Warner Bros. as it mentions wording/artwork involved in the franchise. However, although I do use film-used cover art (by MinaLima), the interior design of the books are my own, as is the wording. This, however, makes it difficult for me to report/file anything against those reselling my work as, of course, I do not have full rights over all of it myself. I do, therefore, have to be somewhat cautious in how I approach the people selling my work, as I don't want to get into hot water with WB. I just wanted to point out that I am aware of this. I also do not plan to name or link those selling my work as I do not wish to promote them in any way. If you want to head to eBay, Etsy, etc. and search for the book titles, you will find them. You may take whatever action you wish (though I would advise against buying!), but I must ask you to do so on your own terms - I am not asking you to seek out and contact these people. I just want you to be aware of the situation.
As a closing statement, I think the use of 'I am not angry, I am merely disappointed' hits the nail on the head. I try very hard not to be an angry person. I am most concerned that people do not get caught out by the fake copies, especially those being sold ridiculous prices. Please be careful and don't hesitate to contact me to check. But as a rule, if it's not through one of my two self-run websites, it's not me offering it!
Secondly:
I have been informed that some of you have not received page uploads for a little while, which I apologise for. This is not due to the above mentioned, but a problem with the upload at this end, and so a separate issue entirely. As such, I will either re-upload the missed weeks worth of pages until now, or I can refund you. Please just let me know which you would prefer.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you all. The support you offer here means so much to me! That is why I post this announcement with a heavy heart. BUT! I do not intend to close down my Patreon entirely. Therefore, I would be most grateful if you could let me know what else you would be willing to subscribe to :] I would love to continue offering you all content for your support, so please comment below with ideas of how I might best do this!
As always, please do comment below (rather than direct message if that's ok, as I want to be open with you all about the situation) and ask any questions that you may have. I will get back to you all as quickly as I can.
Thank you for your continued support, and thank you for taking the time to read this post.
All the best,
Jack

Thank you for your support and kind comments, Chelsea :] That's not a bad idea at all, actually! I'll definitely look into that as an option as well. Do you know what, I was certain that I had posted an update about the book production and shipping situation related to the pandemic, but having looked, it seems that this may have dropped into limbo the same way that my PDF posts did. I will post about this today! Thank you for the nudge :]
2020-04-28 08:21:42 +0000 UTCThank you, Debbie. I agree, and I'm sorry that those select few have made things more difficult for the rest of you.
2020-04-28 08:18:26 +0000 UTCThank you :] That's very kind. I am planning to do this with all copies of A Book of Supernatural History (though ready to go into production, none have been made yet, so I thought I would number them 'X of X'. It's a little too late to do this for the other books, as I have already made many copies of them. I do use hidden details in the pages that I can use as proof, though! If you're ever in doubt, send me a photo or two and I'll be able to confirm. As for your second question, I will post another update about this on here today!
2020-04-28 08:17:32 +0000 UTCThough it’s sad to hear, I completely respect your decision. Your highly detailed work often exceeds the original inspiration, which is rare artistry, and should be respected as such. I’ve always found your flip thrus, Q+As and sharing your book art interesting. They’re found on your free platforms, but maybe early access to your patrons would prevent you from having to double your efforts? With all of this going on, I am curious about whether those of us who have ordered books since becoming Patrons should expect delays in your shipping process? Best of luck to you and thank you for your transparency.
Chantal
2020-04-28 07:57:46 +0000 UTCI'm sorry for all of your troubles. I have made a few items myself, some of the ideas for which I got from your tutorials on YouTube. These take a lot of time and I would never consider selling them for profit unless they were strictly my own designs. Graphic artists have to walk a fine line, and those who blatantly ignore the rules make it difficult for us and take away the fun as well.
2020-04-27 16:33:30 +0000 UTCYou're welcome! Yes, it has been the 21st February for me as well. Do you know why this happened? (since it didn't happen to everyone) That's awesome to hear! I can't wait to see, what you have in mind for the future and I'm sure it'll be magical ;D

2020-04-27 14:54:00 +0000 UTCThank you, Cora. Yes indeed! I'm just working out when the last pages were received by everyone (this appears to have been 21st February). That's great! I'm certainly planning to post about some of the T.o.M.E. creation process as well!
2020-04-27 08:28:06 +0000 UTCI'm so sorry that this problem has even persisted, and I understand your decision. I can't speak for others but I for one am incredibly grateful that you provide these replicas to us! Even if you can't go after the people who are redistributing your content, you are making so many people happy and willing to pay -you- and not some 2-bit Etsy seller for the real deal. That being said, I've got a few questions for you: 1) Could you sign/initial your books for authenticity? I think that would be an incredible way to determine a legitimate product from an illegitimate one! 2) For those of us who have purchased books, is there any update to when they will ship, especially given current circumstances? Is it still the end of April or has that changed?

2020-04-26 19:43:03 +0000 UTCI'm so sorry to hear that they didn't stop doing this! It is so unfair and disappointing and absolutely not okay. Of course I understand that you can't upload any more pages. To be honest, since I didn't get the pages in the last weeks, I already thought you stopped doing it, because of those people and I was completely okay with it :) but I have already read in the other comments, that you are going to upload them again, thank you for that! Regarding future content, I would love some behind the scenes stuff. Like how you create the books, the aging, looking for content, first drafts of some texts (and how you reread and "correct" them) etc etc. Not just for the harry potter books, but also for ToME.

2020-04-26 17:52:29 +0000 UTCThank you so much for taking the time to do that, Marta. Even more so for doing it multiple times! Hopefully we can get to a point where something changes, then I may well start releasing them on here again :] Honestly, it makes up for it receiving supportive comments like this one, so thank you again!
2020-04-26 17:43:07 +0000 UTCThank you so much, Anna! That really does mean a lot :]
2020-04-26 17:41:15 +0000 UTCThanks, Amy. Yes, I will be keeping the part-payment tiers open :] I'll look into setting up some posts about processes and other projects!
2020-04-26 17:40:55 +0000 UTCIt's so sad that you are going through this. As a fellow artist who has been through the same years ago, I totally understand how frustrating this can be. What I will never understand is how someone with a conscience can use others' work and gain not only money but also compliments on something they didn't do. Do they think themselves clever? Do they have no shame? They are no different from common thieves. And I hate it. I've been reporting different shops on Etsy (two from the same person, in particular, who has a lot of sales already), some on ebay as well, but nothing happened. They deleted their listing for a couple of days, and then they were back online. I also tried to write the sellers directly but they never replied, of course. I'm so sorry your good faith has been crushed like this, but I fully support your choice. I will, on my part, keep reporting them until something happens. And I will keep supporting you and your amazing work no matter what you choose to share with us!
2020-04-26 14:56:46 +0000 UTCI agree with everyone commenting so far - i will be supporting regardless of additional perks. As a fan of your work, and books in general, I feel proud knowing I can help in whatever way I can. I am so sorry you have to deal with this, but those of us who are loyal will remain so.
2020-04-26 14:56:17 +0000 UTCThank you, Isabella. That is a good idea! (To everyone) I'll post about this in the upcoming days, giving a count-down to when the existing pages will be removed. That way everyone can download what they have already paid for before they are removed :]
2020-04-26 14:08:11 +0000 UTCYou are most welcome, Wendy. I do try be as open as possible :] I can certainly look into adding some photos/videos/blog posts about processes! Thank you very much for your support! :]
2020-04-26 14:06:25 +0000 UTCThank you! It certainly is frustrating. I feel bad for you guys who will no longer be able to share in them legitimately. (To everyone) That is actually a really good point - I am still keeping the tiers open for all reserved books :]
2020-04-26 14:05:09 +0000 UTCSo sad to hear this, but totally understand the decision. Naturally, as my patreon payments are going directly towards orders, I'll be continuing regardless of patreon rewards in the interim, but I agree with the comments above that it'd be awesome to see/hear more about the process involved with creating/producing the books/projects you have previously and are currently working on!
2020-04-26 13:49:38 +0000 UTCSad to hear this and that people lack such level of morality and common sense to decide stealing other’s work is something they should focus on. As far as content, I would not be opposed to the process of making the books: designing, writing, research, etc. For the un-uploaded pages I will support whatever decision you make. Suggestion: if it is a re-upload, you should make it temporary and then remove all uploads from patreon. This way nothing on patreon will be able to be reproduced by people with less than noble intentions.
