February Q&A (Answers)

General

Patreon Q&A: How would the ROs react to a small MC who can often be found climbing furniture (sometimes rather dangerously) to reach something?? If the ROs, during the deep crushing stage, see them start to fall, (I assume they would all try to catch the Speaker but please correct me if I'm wrong) what would their reaction be to assumed close contact?? (Or, if they don't catch the Speaker, to the Speaker getting hurt, but also in a way that is v obviously their own fault??)

Sebastian catches you, but still frets, gentle hands checking that you aren’t injured. Strongly recommends (it would sound like an order, if not for the hint of a smile on his face) that you just ask him to grab things from the high shelves from now on.

Azalea catches you too, then immediately forgets what she was about to say because now her arms are full of you. Holds onto you longer than she should, then almost drops you when she realizes it. Blushes and mumbles something about being more careful, but tries to be nearby next time you do it in case she needs to catch you again.

Liam/Lily doesn’t catch you, because they know they can’t. But they’re there to fix whatever got injured when you fell. Scolds you for getting yourself hurt, but you can tell it’s from a place of worry and not of anger. Lots of prolonged eye contact and lingering touches and romantic/sexual tension. As soon as you’re okay, they just leave. The next day, every room in your house with high shelves has a step ladder in it.

Kana doesn’t catch you either, though they try to. Ends up as both of you a tangle of bruised limbs on the floor. They get oddly quiet until you climb off of them, at which point they try to laugh it off. They ask why you even have anything on the high shelves, since it’s your house and neither you or your sister are tall. Tries to help you do some redecorating to move things down to reachable shelves.

Rory catches you and spins you around. Every single time it happens. They make jokes about you “falling” for them, or about the first time you met, but they never try to stop you or convince you to find a safer way to get things off shelves. They just make a point to always be there to catch you.

how involved are speaker/seer's parents with the twins? do they know their kids are running around being magical avengers? how do they feel about that?

(I briefly considered putting this in spoilers, but some of it I've already talked about in the past, so I figure I'd put it here)

Up until recently, they were very involved! Dad used to drive the twins around the country before they were old enough to drive themselves. Mom has always been hopeful that it would mean that Seer wouldn’t suffer from the same issues she had with her own visions, so they’ve done everything in their power to help where they can. They’re very supportive and proud of their kids and their desire to help people (though they worry all the time about them getting injured).

At the start of book 1, they’re at a spa retreat of sorts (could also be considered a voluntary hospitalization) in Pennsylvania. Mom had a vision of a major natural disaster that left her temporarily comatose and she’s working on recovering from that. They’ve been gone for about a year at the beginning of the series. You'll get to meet them (sort of) soon, and they’ll show up more in later books.

NSFW

this question is only mildly NSFW, but I decided to put it here instead of in General just in case.

shwarmi asked: what would be the idle hands and unnamed book (it is still unnamed, no?) ROs reaction the shower and towel ask??

I got this ask from someone else in a non-q&a capacity at the same time (which I answered here!), so here are the answers I gave then as well as a little bit extra ;) I ended up doing the little bit extra just with the Idle Hands ROs though, the At the Threshold folks aren’t quite developed enough for me to really have a grasp on their voices yet. I may revisit this once they are!

Casey is chill and suave about it, up until the moment you call their bluff, in which case they are flustered as hell.

“Hello, lovely. Y’know, if you wanted to see me naked you coulda just asked.” Their face turns red as you just smile at them. “What? What’re you--you can’t just--if you’re not gonna say anything, just get out.” Still, they hesitate to see if you’re going to say anything before actually moving to kick you out.

Gavin sighs and just closes the door on you (so he can blush about it in peace). Never mentions it again ever.

"Did no one ever teach you how to knock?" He closes the door firmly, then leans his forehead against it. He can’t help but smile, absurdly pleased at the way you’d been looking at him during that brief moment. Then he groans, runs a hand over his face, and shakes off the feeling.

Malcolm/Mallory straight up invites you to join them next time. It is also fine with them if “next time” means “right now.”

“Well, well, well. Did you come here lookin’ for something? I’d say you found it.” They trail a finger on the edge of the towel they’re wearing, threatening to let it slip. “What say, cher? I got nowhere else to be.”

Anastasia climbs back into the bathtub and closes the curtain again, then sticks her hands out the side of it to apologize for not locking the door and to ask if you’re there for a particular reason.

Is everything okay? When you don’t immediately reply, she peeks out from around the curtain just enough to see you blushing, and relaxes a little. It was bound to happen sooner or later if we're going to be roommates. Should we just go ahead and see each other naked now, so it won’t be awkward later?

Spoilers

these are potentially MAJOR spoilers this month, so read at your own risk 😁 Stop reading here if you don't want to be spoiled!

.

Aonith asked: How was the Speaker's family cursed/gifted with their family ability to See?

They volunteered, along with thirteen other families. The reason why, and who the other families are, are going to be central to the plot of the entire series. Two of them in particular will play a major roll in the first book. The fact that Speaker and Seer are the fourteenth generation of one of the fourteen families is also significant.

Anonymous asked: Q&A on Patreon - Is Rory the werewolf we see at the end of the latest update?? Are they okay????

This is actually something you’ll learn in the newest update (the beta of which was posted before these answers are, and the public release is tomorrow), but Rory isn’t the werewolf, they’re the person on the ground in front of him. They will be okay, though! More or less.

Adding onto this since your question was potentially already answered: Another thing that you learn in that update is that Rory's now in the process of becoming a shapeshifter too, but [WARNING FOR BIG SPOILERS] they will not be a werewolf themself. Due to the way the Change works, those inflicted don’t necessarily become the same type of shifter as the person that bit them.
