Disney cops
Added 2019-06-21 18:46:00 +0000 UTCOne of the first things you encounter when you get to Disney World is the bag check and security officers. When I saw the first officer I figured I was looking at police, and at that I thought “Wow, that is an extremely classic looking police officer.” Blue shirt, shiny badge, octagonal cap. It’s only on closer inspection of the emblems that I realize these aren’t police badges, but disney security. I recall quickly Walt Disney’s championing (or fetishizing) of American culture. The whole scene makes sense now. They aren’t supposed to look like real cops, they’re supposed to look like the fantasy ideal of the friendly TV police officer. Every security officer I spoke to was cheery and kind too, nothing like a real cop. I wonder if they too are called “Cast Members” like all the other employees at Disney World.
