Channel Update: November 2023

Hey everyone. Sorry for the long period of radio silence. It’s been a very busy few months, and there really hasn’t been much to report as script writing is slow and uneventful.

So the original plan was to have the Skyrim Part 3 Stealth video out by now, but several things derailed that. First: the script writing for that video took a lot longer than I was expecting. It was supposed to be done by the time Starfield released, however it was only about 80% done by the end of August. Second: Starfield took longer to record than I expected, and that game turned out to be incredibly complicated to boil down into a coherent linear analysis video.

Both of those led to number three: working on Starfield and Skyrim concurrently just wasn’t possible. I figured I was going to be editing Skyrim as I wrote Starfield, but even if I had Skyrim’s script done, I doubt that’s how it would have played out as Starfield proved to be really challenging to write. So I decided to focus on Starfield while everything was fresh in my mind and frankly, I knew if I put off Starfield there was never going to be a Starfield video. Unfortunately, that meant putting Skyrim on hold entirely until I had the Starfield script done.

The Starfield script is done now, sitting at 44,700 words which comes out to around a 4 hour video. I’ve already begun recording VO, and bulk editing will be starting in the next day or so. I’ve done a lot of work to ensure editing should go quickly. This is the part where things start moving very quickly. I’m not willing to commit to a release date yet, but it’s soon.

As for Skyrim, writing will resume in the next few days. Playing Starfield gave me a some new ideas for that script, but almost all of it is additive, so I’m not looking at any rewrites. I finished all of the challenging parts of the script, so I don’t expect any more slowdowns there.

Unfortunately this means there won’t be a Skyrim video this year. Kind of disappointing to go from thinking this year would be the end of the Skyrim series to this year having no Skyrim videos at all, but 2023 has been challenging to say the least. I have a release window in mind, but I really can’t commit to anything because it’s looking to be another 7 hour video. It’s already at 54k words, around 5 hours of runtime, and yeah, I got more to add.

It’s worth mentioning: Part 3 is only covering the stealth playstyle, the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, and all the remaining Daedra quests. The fourth and final video will be covering DLC, the conclusion, and a bunch of oddball topics.

So yeah, I’m sorry it’s taking a while and I’m sorry I’ve been quiet for the past few months, but I’ve got about 12 hours of content cooking right now and I know the only way that’s gonna get done is if I put my head down and grind.

I really appreciate the support and patience. Both of these projects have been unusually-challenging, partially due to their subjects, and partially because I keep trying to push the quality in my scripts. One of the biggest motivators I’ve had these past 5 months has been the knowledge that there’s a bunch of people eager to see these things. We’re getting there, the next post should hopefully have a new video for your viewing pleasure.
