Movie: Superman

SUPERMAN

Comments

There's a meme where Clark takes off his glasses and puts them on their dinner table. Lois says, "Where did that table come from? I've never seen it before."

The guy who says, "Finally something liberals and conservatives can agree on. Lex Luthor sucks!" was rival billionaire Maxwell Lord (source of funding for the Justice Gang and played by Gunn's brother Sean). He will come up again.

I love Superman's old tyme comic book dialogue, saying things like he has to get back in the fray and why are you giving me so much guff?

You articulated so well why I love this movie and by extension, James Gunn himself. He is my kind of writer and he writes in a way that is relatable to me and everything he does always packs an emotional punch that feels just right. The only other work that has felt close to being this good for me is that of Seth McFarlane. These two are the kind of writers that I aspire to be. I’m glad you enjoyed and loved it as much as I did. As much as I love this movie, I think I love Peacemaker S2 even more. It was deeply personal to James and so touching in so many ways. I can’t wait for you to get into it. You should also consider watching the Peacemaker podcast in your own time, if you can, it will not only make you appreciate the show even more, but also James, as a filmmaker and John Cena, as an actor and everyone else overall. It was such a special thing for me, learning about the behind the scenes and all the other special moments and other things that went into making this entire show, as a whole.

I think Nicholas Hoult actually might have said he was probably more influenced by Rosenbaum's Lex. As like you he grew up watching Smallville. There are definitely some other Smallvillesque interpretation stuff that made it in to this depiction. I really like this one, aside from the obvious thing that they have all done for almost 40 years. Reeve will always be this role. Unless they actually bother to write and then cast someone to play both personalities. Smallville aside, as he obviously wasn't Superman yet. Post the 80s they haven't thought it relevant enough to have his disguise be more than haircut and glasses. Comic lore of hypno glasses is a great lesser known canon nod. It might have also been nice to see a little more lean into the mild-mannered reporter portrayal too. Perhaps any attempt to, might be seen as a Reeve impersonation of that iconic take of the character.
