Even though I agree with you. He should have told them in the beginning. I have two counterpoints. 1. Chuck does not want to bring other people down because of his own problems. He'd rather (foolishly, probably) do something on his own, rather than risk losing people he cares about on a mission that's solely his own motivation. 2. I actually like that he lied because it's all over in a single episode. This is a great way to start the season and I would have been way more annoyed if this lasted for multiple episodes. Such a solid season opener. It led to so many awesome scenes. "Who are these master spies???" Ahh I love it. Then we have the Ellie thing, which is annoying, of course. But from Chuck's POV I completely understand him. It's in tone with his character. However, it does feel unnecessary. Can I offer one counterpoint to your frustration with Ellie and the secrets on this show? This show has never had the secrets come out in the "worst way possible". Every single secret reveal has been, at least to me, a 10/10. Devon in a brawl with Casey and Chuck and Sarah coming in during the heat of it all. Awesome scene. Morgan finding the secret Castle underneath the Buy More when he followed those Ring agents. Ellie finding out Chuck's a spy a couple of episodes ago. Normally I hate secrets, but at least this show's track record has merited enough trust to hope they continue down this route.
