It needs to be the reincarnations. It’s hagoromos chakra that awakens the rinnegan. And fusing cells of the Indra and ashura reincarnations gives you hagoromos chakra

All zetsu had to do was get a uchiha and Uzumaki to have a kid together would have been way easier than waiting thousands of years it didn’t even have to be a senju, since Uzumaki is basically a descendent from the senju clan

This exactly. Rinnegan = Mangekyo + Hagoromo's chakra, so he awakened the Mangekyo but his six paths chakra turned it into the rinnegan. Also the only person who "awakened" the rinnegan really was Madara (and kinda Sasuke) and his eyes just got passed around lol

before Naruto Shippuden ends you have to watch the movie Naruto the last before the official last episode of Shippuden. I think you watch it right after ep 479.

Isnt Rinnegan just the next evolution of mangekyo? (though you need both Indra and Asura chakra for it to happen) I always thought that was why only his Rinnegan showed and not the mangekyo. And im pretty sure no one else in the series with the Rinnegan, awakened it before they awakened the mangekyo beforehand. Hagoromo just "leveled up" twice at the same time.

The should have given us these episodes when the Sage was telling naruto/sasuke about his past just like with Hashirama. Hashirama's story was well told and can't be sonsidered filler cause thats the first time we are getting information beyong him being the first hokage and fighting Madara. Also this would have helped set up Kaguya as the final villlian instead of the surprise we got..:D

Theres things that are filler filler but theres also things that are technically anime canon but still labeled as filler. Id consider this and the Ashura/Indra stuff to be that. Obviously i do think some stuff you arent supposed to think too hard about but the lore and all that is legitimate

I can clear some things up for you the best I can. The Rinnegan can typically be awakened by gaining Hagoromo's chakra either by reproducing it from combining the chakra of Hagoromo's sons, Indra and Asura, or by directly receiving chakra from Hagoromo himself. Thats why Senjus and Uchihas wouldn’t be able to mate and awaken the Rinnegan, only from combining the reincarnates of Indra and Asura chakra can awaken it. Also these episodes don’t really show how powerful both Hagoromo and Hamura actually are. And lastly Kaguya’s Byakugan is far superior then any byakugan you seen in the show her byakugan rivals a rinnegan, and i’m not sure if they said this already or not but Kaguya also has the Rinne-Sharingan on her head which is superior to the rinnegan.

also, im pretty sure hagoromos "eye" is just symbolism to show that he also had his sharingan abilities as well as rinnegan. just like how sasukes tomoe show he still has his sharingan abilities as well as rinnegan. at least that is what makes the most sense to me
