Just shows the difference between Hashirama's point of view ( Using his immense strength for love, compassion and equality ) and Madara/Obito's view (Using strength to force the world to their ideals and vision of peace). It ties in to what Obito told about the Sage's sons Indra and Ashura, Ashura thought love was necessary for peace, Indra the elder son thought absolute power was necessary and so the Sage chose Ashuha as his successor.
