2025-07-30 19:42:32 +0000 UTCOne way to make a propellant bag made from nitrocellulose less sensitive is to do what the USSR did to produce the propellant bags for the T-72. One makes a blend of regular cellulose fiber and nitrocellulose. This sort of paper or carton like martial is then formed into the shape of the propellant bag, or better, the self-combusting cartridge, as it will be rather stiff. Then it is dipped into a bath of molten TNT. The TNT will actually make this safer, as it doesn't explode as easily as nitrocellulose. But it also helps to make the cartridge less permeable to moisture.
