I think your solution is the best, most logical solution. That said, I REALLY miss the old 6 hour Drydocks. I would love to see them resurrected.

Capitano Lorenzo

I was thinking that Drach would not issue the request for Patreon questions for those months, i.e. we would be reduced to (say) eight of the twelve months. Having said that, it would then be likely to increase the number of questions asked in the remaining months (so those DDs would be longer) as we Patreons can't seem to stop asking them! I appreciate that changes (slightly) the terms of patronage but I'd be happy enough with that ... for a while, anyway.

Drach: I think the solution you presented is the best that’s realistically achievable. Taking the best questions from two weeks until you’ve righted the ship (sorry) is probably the best available option. Regards from the States. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

nice idea but when should he answer the patreon qs? I don't know if he has an evil twin that will help him

Reichsbierminister

As a variation on the above: maybe have a regular quarterly (or even bi-monthly) three or four hour 'regular questions' catch-up DD instead of the lengthy, end of month Patreon ones during 2023 and then see where you are by the end of the year.

Dave Peachey

Drydock versus Time issue: I think the best solution is one you offreed -hit two weeks worth of questions per Drydock for a while. to Catch up. Then, maybe do that (questions from two weeks in one Drydock) mid month for the rest of time to keep it caught up.

The Classical Economics solution to an oversupply scenario is to either A) Expand throughput capacity on the supply side (in this instance your throughput as you are the supplier of answers to questions) or B) Increase the cost on the demand side (in this instance the cost for your answers to questions being posed). Of the two, and in this age of inflation, the answer seems trivial to me… Cheers!

As much of a proud American I am, I’d have to say my ideal Treaty era battleship would’ve been the 1930s Lion class. My priorities for a capital ship are armament and speed (I want zip & boom! Heavily armored and the slow speeds that go along with that just make you a slower target— that’s the lesson I took looking at Jutland), and that’s what you seem to get with Lion. She’s got good speed on her, and her armament is near-ideal. While it’s not as balanced as Vanguard was (with the same number fore and aft), you do still have the 2/3 forward arrangement giving you good charging offense; however you still have a turret aft to cover your 6 (something I never liked about the Dunquerque’s, Richelieu’s, or Nelson’s as it’s leaving a blind spot for you). Plus, the Lions guns are bigger and you got more of them so that’s good! And while much of this can also be said of the Iowa’s, which admittedly did have the advantage of actually being built, the Lion’s just narrowly edge them out in my estimates because they just look SO much better in the hull. They got much better, cleaner lines that look right, versus the Iowa’s and that weird needle nose they sported (and while granted there WAS a hydrodynamic & engineering reason for said features, it doesn’t change the fact that it looks hideous). So I’ll wave the Stars & Stripes and say it’s RN 1930s Lion class for me!

See the pinned post :)

I didn't hear it either. Heard the death star's and the corvets horn. On the USS Buffalo, the diving alarm was electrically generated. The best description I ever came up with what it sounds like is a buffalo with a spear suddenly inserted into its posterior. Sorry for the graphic audio cross chaos there.

Smokey The Bear

I'm falling behind just in listening!

Graham William Kidd

since the Q "problem" will accumulate each year, how about you skip one patreon/wednesday or sth else regular and do a quarterly catch up like "drydock overhaul" for e.g. for the last 3 months?

Reichsbierminister

Regarding use of heavy captial ships at Dunkirk, I wonder if also they were assuming an invasion would follow at some point and wanted to save them for that.

Kevin Weber

Also, is the audio of your remixed claxon missing from the death star question?

Alexander Hickman

I've added a link in the pinned post, for some reason the edited sounds didn't render.

Well, coming from someone that invented HMS By Jove! thats not impossible

at 27 minutes, I think there's a sound effect missing. Either that or you're making us listen to complete silence as proof that we'll listen to anything.

The "self made" siren sounds on the Death Star question are missing, Drach
