I'm sure Drach left it out because of the time constraints of the channel -- but I have no doubt CVN-65 would have had zero problems besting just about anything in her time for speed+distance runs.

When I was in school, I read a memoir by an American USN officer who ran a repair dock in Eritrea shortly after US entry into WWII. Apparently they serviced several RN light cruisers.I don't remember many of the details, but I recall the book claiming that the RN was camouflaging cruisers to convince the Italians that they had BBs in areas where they didn't, and for a while had no capital ships in the Mediterranean at all. Does this ring a bell? Is any of it true? Any thoughts what that book might have been?

Besides the Iowas, the USS Indianapolis set a speed record from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor. Not quite as far as a transatlantic crossing, but close.

Working armory security back in the USMC, I became PARTICULARLY annoying and got on a few officers nerves for not letting people in without clearance or an escort (was always funny to watch some green Lieutenant getting upset at a lowly enlisted man basically saying with their actions βSorry but no, sir, youβre not getting in I donβt careβ)

Pericombobulations upon your most compunctuous naval history interludicle. I find your extramuralisation pendigestatory and your interfrastically frasmotic publication of 200 Dry Docks anaspeptic!!

Congrats on episode 200! I still remember when I found this odd channel with a British robo-voice back in the day, digging deep into YouTube rage-searching being sick of clips from overproduced cable channel warship history shows and knowing better *had* to be out there!
