Hey Drach, this question has been on my ever expanding list of drydock questions, but the news of the USS The Sullivans has brought it to the forefront. As an engineering challenge, how would you create a pond of deoxygenated water for a museum ship to float in, lessening corrosion. Is there a liquid with a similar density which is environmentally acceptable that it would be better than water for a ship to float in long term?

Hello Drach, another major challenge for the Dutch at the Battle of Java Sea was the lack of seamen mobility since they had not transitioned from their wooden shoes at this time.

Regarding the ABDA command vs Japanese force they met, on 8" guns, the count was 15 ABDA versus 20 IJN, but the Houston had been hit by a bomb taking C turret out of action, reducing this by three resulting (before the two fleets met) 8" guns, the count was 12 ABDA versus 20 IJN. Granted Houston's C turret didn't matter in a head on brawl, but it really mattered for a withdrawal.

Hi drach watching this made me wonder. Was there any way the battle of the java see could have gone the other way? (Japanese loss)
