The Warrior (Redesign)

Something I wanted to do for the original Warrior that I ended up failing at was going for a big, athletic frame. I envisioned her as being muscular, but without a whole lot of definition, like a wrestler or a weightlifter. I think this design is more successful in that regard.

There also wasn't a lot of consideration for interesting ways for her outfit to react to her weight gain, so that's why I opted for more leather-type armor here.

I don't know if this design will end up replacing the current one, maybe I'll put it to a vote after version .3 is released.

Thanks for voting!

The current warrior strikes me as a pretty good candidate for the upcoming knight class, if I change her outfit a little. And don't worry, there's no way I'll finish Eat the Dungeon without putting in a redhead character first!

"Powerful, but soft" is the perfect description of what I was going for. I gave her a smaller head proportionally to imply that she's taller/bigger than most character I draw. Her hip's cocked to one side so that's why I made it more angular here, and the shape in front of her stomach is supposed to be fabric! Communicating clothing material is not something I'm super great at since I use extremely cartoony colors and render everything as being smooth and textureless.

Bewildered Angel

I'm also thinking this is the route I'd like to take.

Bewildered Angel

Yes! The current warrior's art would be improved so much if I had just zoomed her out a little. I would also really like to change her outfit.

Bewildered Angel

I think this would be a good course of action. I like the original warrior but I want to change her outfit completely.

Bewildered Angel

Thanks! I think I like her more too.

I agree, regarding the similarity on the OG warrior and the thief's expressions. I'm really glad I had the chance to redesign her.

Bewildered Angel

The OG warrior's face/expression are definitely my favorite things about that design. If she gets replaced I'll probably make her into a new class with a new outfit.

Well, you did say that you wanted to add more characters and classes. Personally, I like the current warrior. Partially because I'm used to it, and I'm a sucker for redheads. Also the "sword and board" has always been the classic warrior type imho. That said, I'm perfectly fine with using Red for a different class, or keeping her as the warrior and using the redesign as a new class. Heck, you could even make them both warriors and just give them different specs. For example, you could remove the "shield" damage type from the redesign and then buff the "sword" damage type, or damage the entire front row. You could possibly give Red a bonus to veggies as well or have a chance to block attacks to her and the other characters to give her a general/multipurpose role. Warriors are a very versatile class, after all. You're still really early in development, so there's a lot of options available to you. You could take this in just about any direction and make it work. Anyways, that's just my two cents. I've really enjoyed your work so far, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the game!

She's adorable! Seriously love her design, that she manages to be very clearly powerful despite how soft she looks, how friendly she seems and that beautiful sword. Little confused about three things though, namely that her head looks pretty small proportionately, the shape of her backside and how her belly would visibly swell with that armour in the way (unless of course, I'm misinterpreting it and what I think is metal happens to be purely fabric).

Scryer

Great design! I just plain love this. I agree with one of the previous comments: perhaps she should be the default warrior and the old one become something else.

I also like both designs. The redesign looks more like what I would envision a warrior to be. On the other hand, I've grown attached to the current design, or rather, the warrior herself. If the redesign were to replace her, I would hope to see the current design touched up possibly at some point down the line. I think the things holding down the current warrior design is the way she is framed in the portrait compared to the other classes, as well as her pose. I think her outfit also lends itself to less noticeable weight gain until the higher levels. I think changes to those would be enough to get current design up to speed, but in all honesty, the surcoat and gauntlets always gave me knight or crusader vibes more than that of a warrior. Hope to see more soon.

I like both designs. Maybe you could change the old warrior into another class in the future? Modify it slightly, and make her a templar? (Or something similar)

Dongly

ohh, shes cute! i think i like her nore than current warrior.

Haha, yee. That's an alt if I ever saw one. it's not to said the old one didn't have the charm to it. However, it didn't really feel at home with the other characters. Her personality was ( display by the artwork) similar to the thief which made her not really stand out much. Of course, this is just my option and others might disagree but still, it's nice to have conflicting opinions. Mainly to better ideas so that the end product is something that everyone can be happy with. All and all, I like the redesign and I hope others do too.

I like this design a lot, I think the body shape works really well and what you described I definitely see, I do like the facial features of the old design a little better though. She looked a little tougher and snarky with that grin you gave her. Still, love this design she's cute!
