Patreon Feedback

Hello! Since its been about 3 months since the Patreon began, I think this is a good time to talk about what's working, what's not working, and what you guys want to see from me in the future.

First off, I'm going to review what I think about the current Patreon rewards. Let me know in the comments how you feel about the current Patreon Tiers and their benefits.

Apprentice

I think this is a really good tier, with a lot of value. When I originally designed the reward tiers, I focused on a high number of $1 and $5 patrons, and I think I succeed in making the $1 tier very enticing.

The only thing I'm thinking about changing is making all the Patreon art exclusive to patrons, and not early access. The only reason it was early access in the first place was I was worried the workload of producing free art for my social media accounts, along with the Patreon would be too much, but that hasn't been an issue.

Veteran

Could use some work. Suggesting characters for the drawing poll seems pretty valuable to me, however, out of the 40 or so $5 patrons, only 5-6 of them actually post suggestions every week. If you are a $5 or above patron, and you do not suggest characters, please let me know in the comments why you don't, or what I can do to make suggesting characters more enticing. I'd really like everybody to get their money's worth.

Preliminary sketches and cut content is a complete bust, imo. Not setting a regular schedule for posting this, combined with the fact that there just isn't really a whole lot of this type of content to begin with, means that for three months I never actually posted anything of this type. So I want to either drop this benefit entirely, or maybe set a bi-weekly or monthly schedule to post what little I have for this content. Let me know if you want me to drop the "preliminary sketches and cut content" benefit entirely, or try harder to make it work.

Hero

This is the weakest tier, by far. I'd really like to come up with a second benefit since the credits thing is really just a bonus. My original idea was that this is the tier for people who just want to generously give money to the Patreon without having to worry too much about rewards, but I don't like that idea so much right now. What benefit do you want here? What would make you upgrade to $10 a month?

Legend

I've got a lot of mixed feelings about this one. I thought it would be extremely popular, and in terms of people giving me money, it is, with all three slots being taken every month (so I'm pretty excited about that, understandably). What's really surprising is that out of the 6 times that the character design benefit has triggered, only two people have actually submitted their character design. So that's like a 1/3rd hit rate on there, which I don't really know what to think about? If you are at the $25 tier, and you don't submit character designs, let me know what I can do to make the process easier for you.

I was originally very cautious with this tier, but thus far its been a very good for me. Even if I were to receive all 3 character designs a month, that is not a big strain on my workload. So I might expand the slots to 5 or even 10.

Suggestions!

Now I'd like to know what kind of benefits would you like to see?

If you are already a patron, what kind of benefit would make you upgrade to a higher tier? If you are not a patron, what could I add to Patreon to make you a subscriber?

What do you think a $50 tier would look like??? A $100 tier?!?!? Let me know what kinds of things you want from my Patreon in the comments!

Never done physical rewards so I'm super nervous about that. Desktop wallpaper is something I'm confident about executing successfully, though.

Thank you!

I think you're doing just great, idk if there's anything I'd ask you to improve on. Dont always suggest because I dont always have the time to stop in, but I love the quality regardless of which option wins every week.

So, thanks to a slow day at work I've had some time to come up with a few more reward suggestions. How about a desktop wallpaper of the main four girls together (kinda like promo art)? A big piece of art like this could add a nice reward in the $10 bracket? More could be added as a kind of slow burn reward with the next one being of the next four characters in the game? I'll also throw in the idea of some kind of physical reward here (stickers or posters for example), but I have no idea if it's feasible for you - could be worth looking into though? Perhaps the cut content would be better to look into further down the line - when there is more potential unused designs to put in a post?

Erill

Thank you for the support! Currently I spend about 8 hrs a week on Patreon stuff, half goes to the game, and half goes to the weekly art.

Bewildered Angel

I just don't really have any suggestions as far as the art stuff goes but don't mind the free art. Mainly I just wanted to give money and hope the time might go to more art assets for the game but that's probably being made along side it anyways

moonslashx

I just don't know if there's enough content for the sketches/cut content post to even work out, but I'll think about it!

Bewildered Angel

As a $5 patron, I only submit ideas when I actually have them. And a bi-monthly thing sounds interesting, gives us content while mitigating stress for you.

Scryer

Real time communication gives me absolute Anxiety. I might make an official discord if the Patreon becomes successful enough, maybe as a bonus for the first goal. I like the idea of having a more formalized process for submitted character designs. It would probably make it easier on my end, too. Free commissions is also probably good.

Bewildered Angel

You can already vote on game-related polls at the $1 tier. I've only been putting them up as they become necessary, so I think there's only been 2 or 3 so far. I suppose I should increase frequency there. I have been kicking around the idea of a "suggestion box" benefit, where patron could suggest character, enemy, level concepts etc, but I'm wary of just locking out all feedback from non-Patrons.

Thanks for the insight! Regarding raffles, patreon has banned them to avoid running afoul of gambling laws: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/204199489-Can-I-offer-a-raffle-as-part-of-a-reward-

I've only been a $25 Patron for one month ($10 in the first) and have been pretty pleased with most things on here so far. The art suggestions and polls are a highlight, despite my suggestions normally not doing too great in the polls. :D I have been thinking about suggesting setting up a Fan/Patron discord (could be another reward on here?) The one $25 design I put in was pretty straight forward to sort out - didn't take too long to come up with a design and type it out, perhaps setting up an easy to fill in document or something could speed up the process for those who have less time? I honestly have been enjoying following the game's progress and your art BA and would be happy to put in a bit more backing. Perhaps a $50 patron could put in a few more (2-3) character designs per month? Maybe a $100 one would get a piece of commissioned art every 2 months in addition to other benefits?

Erill

would a kind of 10 dollar teir vote on new characters to be added be viable? I would like to have some more imput on the game, but i am unable to upgradr past the 10 teir. I think something like this may entice others to reach that 10 tier. Not full suggestions for new charecters, but like a vote on what we may want to see added, it could also be for things like enemy designs, maybe even ideas for dungeons?

Snaccaca

One of the reasons, I don't make suggestions for the voting poll is that I worry what I suggest would either wouldn't get pick or gets picked but becomes a wasted shot for something else. I don't think its a bad thing it's just how popularity contests work. One thing I suggest you could do for 5$ tier is to hold a raffle to get sketch request or something of that nature.
