Ideas for a title of the tour:
- the Drachinifel shakedown cruise (Mk.I or sth perhaps) - colonies revisited
- Drydock Export (or New World Drydock)

In the Army , what you described was the difference between a barracks soldier ( perfect uniform, marches nicely, recites code of conduct in his sleep etc ) and a combat soldier ( is able to fight in a war ). Sometimes the two are alike, but not often. The longer at peace, the barracks soldier becomes more prevalent then the combat soldier.

Capital idea regarding the little bits of family history. My dad was in the 43rd Infantry Division (43rd Signal Company) in New Georgia, Solomon Islands. I sat down with him and a tape recorder years ago. I wish I had done more. There are literally millions of these stories from all over the world and thanks to current technology and people such as yourself, willing to spend the time and effort, they can now be preserved. I commend you sir!
