As I understand it work on Vanguard was continued due to the Battleship losses early in the war and anticipating a need to replace them. Was there any similar program started or continued after the loss of Glorious and Corageous? Or more generally How/what was the RNs approach to carrier production in the prewar buildup and during the war? (To me it seems to have gone very much onto the back foot)

In pre-aviation, pre-radar days where hull speed defined scouting and situation awareness, could you have had a hydrofoil ship?
