Dripping the entire oarlock assembly and swaddled oar section with hot fat will further reduce the noise level, but choose your fat wisely... Bacon fat not only makes your away party hungry, but a tailwind will announce your impending arrival in time for the red carpet treatment. (Your blood and limbs carpet the ground.) Can't go wrong with blubber, or mackerel/herring squeezins'...

I've read a number of histories of the Pacific Theater in WWII. It seems that in all of them U.S. and Royal Navies have very few carriers (or none, as the case may be) and then suddenly there are British and U.S. carriers all over the place. I would be very interested in an in depth look at the buildup of carrier forces over the course of the war. How many came out from the U.S. and Britain at a time? How frequently did new units arrive in theater? Were they in already organized task groups that were slotted into the fleet as an existing unit or were the carriers and escorts split up and parceled out to already existing units in the fleet? Would you be willing to make a video delving into this aspect of the Pacific War?

Muffling the oars is wrapping the part of the oars that fit in the oarlock in something (like cloth) that deadens the sound made by rowing the boat, launch, skiff, etc.

In reference to night fighting during the age of sail, you talk about muffled oars. How was this done? Do you put something on the paddle so it makes less noise as it goes in the water?

A stadia is approximately 185 metres / 607 feet - so 3/4 of a stadia would be approximately 138 metres / 455 feet.

20:00 I had an image of you Directing ILM. One can dream. Peter from Weta can probably do a bang up job too.
