Which brought up the thought to me that there is a mechanism now on the market has been on the market the vibrate the hulls of smaller vessels in yachts to get rid of barnacles. probably the number one cause of any vessel not reaching its planned speed. You wouldn't know about the history of anti barnacle efforts also known as anti-fouling paint. Another I know the Royal Navy spent a vast Fortune for a very long time coppering the bottoms of their sailing vessels. Wonder what steps the Navies of the world are taking nowadays

The gangplank to the Olympia crosses over top of the Becuna (a Gato-class sub). The New Jersey is a few hundred yards away on the other side of the river. Check Google-Earth for a nice size-contrast of all 3.
