Hello Supporters!
Today I have a video I've made for Websoul, inspired by a chat we had on Discord about using objects with material zones in Substance Painter. Each material zone creates a whole texture set on export, wasting resources and costing time when we want to apply those in the target application. Adobe have been actively refusing to implement an option to remedy this, so we're forced to come up with workarounds for the problem (at least as of version 8.2.0).
One option is to combine the exported textures with a script like Texture Set Combiner. This lets us work with the benefits of separate layer stacks in Substance Painter, at the expense of additional work after export.
Another option is to use masks in a single layer stack by way of generating an ID map to select material zones, or by using the Polygon Fill Tool. I'm discussing how to do that in this video. Enjoy!
In other news, I've had some dental treatment yesterday, the first part of a multitude of visits over the next few months. Although most of my teeth are in great shape, one at the bottom right was giving me some grief on and off over the last few months. My dentist discovered that it's in such bad shape that it's best to remove it (extraction they call it), and that's happened yesterday.
She's also prepared the molar next to it with a temporary crown, as it'll need a root canal over the next few weeks to save it. Hence I'm taking it easy this week. I'm happy to say that it all happened without pain, and I'm glad I finally taking care of this.
More news as it breaks!
