FULL WATCHALONG: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

Comments

Hey Brad! Hahahah I LOVED this movie. I do remember them saying “Rufus!!!” and thinking “oh I must’ve missed when he said his name” but now I know it’s called the bootstrap paradox! Also, a couple days ago I saw that Laura’s watch was a little behind— the minute hand was a few minutes off. And I said “don’t forget to wind your watch!!!” She was very confused. What do you mean? How do I do that? Do I need to take it somewhere for it? Anyway, it looks like it needs a new battery 🤣 Thanks for the name of the name of that song — frankly I forgot to search for it, and days later I found a note on my phone that said “And iiii will be dancing in the street all night” hahaha I’m gonna listen to it now. Thanks again for requesting this awesome movie! I can’t wait to watch it again. Maybe even with my watch along video on the background! ❤️

A most triumphant reaction video, Cristy! And you didn't even need Eddie Van Halen! This movie did indeed have a most excellent soundtrack. I got it on CD when it came out and listened to it over and over. Even though I've never heard of basically any of the artists before, the film makers did an amazing job of selecting the music. The particular song that you were interested in when Bill and Ted were in the year 2688 is called "In Time" by Robbie Robb. As the opening credits are playing, you asked, "What am I looking at?" That seems to be a pretty standard question at this point in the movie for people who are reacting to it. As we know now, it was apparently some kind of transport bringing Rufus to wherever he was to give us the movie introduction. And it later morphed into the time-traveling phone booth. An interesting thing about Rufus... specifically, his name. When he shows up at the Circle K, Bill and Ted of course have no idea who he is or what his name is. But then their tomorrow-selves show up at the Circle K, and they clearly let Bill and Ted know that the man's name is Rufus. But, then, how did tomorrow-Bill and Ted learn his name? From themselves. In essence, that knowledge came and originated from "nowhere". Something in time-travel stories known as a "bootstrap paradox". "Don't forget to wind your watch!" Yes, just like grandfather clocks have to be wound every few days, and some alarm clocks as well (basically so they will still function even if the power goes out). some watches were made to work that way as well. You have to remember to wind it every so often or it will just wind down and the hands will freeze in place until you wind it again. Of course, the really hysterical thing about this moment is that Ted forgets to wind his watch, even though tomorrow-Ted specifically reminds him to. So when things loop back around, Ted decides that he needs to remind himself, again. Of course, we know now that the reminding won't work, and that this cycle of "remind myself but forget anyway so remind myself again" will in effect go on forever. The air guitar moments are indeed great., and I love the sound effect you came up with to approximate the sound. I totally think that you should adopt doing that into your daily life. 😉 You ask how they managed to fit all those people into the phone booth. I can only assume it's some sort of 27th century technology that somehow allows the insides of structures to grow if necessary, even if the outside remains the same size. At least.... that's what I'm sticking with. "What was in those cans" that Ted hands to all the historical figures when they're briefly stuck in the year 1,000,000 B.C.? I never bothered to look too closely but I'm pretty sure they were cans of chocolate pudding. Which of course came in handy in jury-rigging a fix to the phone booth's antennae. You asked about Joan of Arc, "Is that a young Winona Ryder?" She does indeed bear a resemblance to a young Ms. Ryder, but in this case, Joan of Arc was played by Jane Wiedlin, better know as the singer, songwriter, co-founder, and rhythm guitarist of the new wave band "The Go-Go's". She only has a few acting credits to her impressive career. One of them is a cameo in a movie that I bet you will eventually end up watching, so I won't spoil it here. "Wasn't Beethoven blind?" Beethoven could see perfectly well, but he did gradually lose his hearing and became deaf later in his life. And yet, that didn't stop him from composing some truly epic pieces of music. At the very end of the movie, I love how you laughing said 'Thay suck!", just in time for Rufus to turn to you (and the other viewers) and assure you that- "They DO get better." Lol, you couldn't have timed that better. Well, Cristy, I'm so glad that you had such fun watching this movie! I hope that it translates to lots of views and feedback on your YouTube channel if/when it goes up there!

This was a most excellent reaction! It's a favorite of mine so I know it by heart lol. You definitely need to watch Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and Bill and Ted Face the Music!
