FULL WATCHALONG: Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Bradley I love these detailed breakdowns so much! I'm glad I'm not alone in my crush on Sarah Connor!

Cristy

Ok, it took me an extra day before I was able to get to it, but Wow!, I was so thrilled to watch this movie along with you. Here's my thoughts about your thoughts- "Smoking, alcohol use, violence, foul language, nudity.... YES!!!" Ok, you got me laughing right off the bat. I hope that stays in the YouTube edit. 😉 Regarding your thoughts and speculation on AI technology. It's really a tricky subject. In theory, it could be used to great beneficial advantage both to individual people and humanity as a whole, but it also has the potential to be used for very negative, even destructive purposes. And unfortunately, it only takes a few people out of a population of 8.2 billion to ruin it for everybody else. Even if it is not used for war-related stuff, a lot of people still don't like it. Writers and artists, for instance, particularly hate how some people want to replace their well-earned and hard-fought jobs by using AI instead. When the T-1000 (played by Robert Patrick) showed up. "So he's supposed to protect the kid, John Connor?" Well, as you saw, the viewer is certainly supposed to believe that at this point. Indeed, this is one of the reasons that I envy you and other YouTube reactors who watch this movie with no knowledge beforehand. You see, when this movie came out in 1991, there were trailers and commercials for it everywhere, and unfortunately, they made it obvious that Arnold was playing a "good guy" in this movie. I daresay that 95% of the people who went to see this movie in the theater already knew that going in. So it's great to see people be surprised by that revelation like James Cameron intended. Like you, I was amazed when I first saw this movie about how Sarah Connor (and also Linda Hamilton) had changed since the first film. Indeed, she is a quintessential badass that you can't help but admire. She knew what needed to be done, set out to do it, and did it. Her character is definitely one of the best things in the whole Terminator franchise. Yeah, it's really too bad about what happened to Janelle and Todd. They may have been "dicks" according to John, but they were still trying to help him and provide a home for him. The dog Max going crazy barking when the T-1000 was on the phone with John is certainly a reference to the first film when Reese explains that in the future, they use dogs to detect Terminators. I have no doubt that's why John had possession of Max, and also why Sarah had acquired a dog at the end of the first film. The actual death of Todd is horrific, but also kind of funny because at first, when "Janelle" is on the phone, you're like "what was that strange noise"? And then after the camera pans over, you realize that the T-1000 just got really annoyed at Todd and simply killed him to shut him up. Regarding the very creepy orderly - yes, viewers in general are disgusted by what he does, but especially women, for obvious reasons. I hate that such things must happen in real life. And I'm glad that Sarah was able to take out the sick bastard a few minutes later. "Are you sure that she [Sarah] is not a Terminator?" Well she certainly made the attempt to become one! In fact, when she invades Dyson's house with the intent to execute him, you can hear the Terminator theme playing. I'm glad that the character was able to resist the temptation to simply eliminate someone that she had targeted, much as she had been several years ago. When the T-800 (Uncle Bob) steps out of the elevator and Sarah sees him for the first time, you said "Imagine her fear!" Absolutely. Lind Hamilton gave an outstanding performance in the whole movie but especially for that scene. You genuinely believe that she is terrified and is convinced that she is about to be killed. Other YouTube reactors have commented on the same thing about this scene. Again, just phenomenal on the part of Linda Hamilton. "I think I have a little crush on Sarah Connor!" Believe me Cristy, you were not alone. So many people were crushing on her after seeing this movie. I mean, of course she was attractive in the first film, but seeing her in such good shape in this movie with her new badass attitude.... such a turn-on! When "Uncle Bob" peels off his arm-skin to show Dyson, you said "Did he have to all that? Couldn't he just do a couple of fingers?" I think the reason was not only to make clear to Dyson just how much of himself was machine, but also because by exposing his whole arm, Dyson would be very familiar with what he was looking at since he had spent so much time examining the identiacl arm of the first Terminator. Toward the end of the movie, you ask "How old is John, anyway?" Well, that's still a bit of a puzzle. When the T-1000 enters the cop car at the beginning of the film and pulls up John Connor's data on the computer, it specifically says that he is 10 years old. But he certainly doesn't present as that young when you see him. Most people agree with your assumption that in the movie he is either 12 or 13. Indeed, when this movie was filmed, the actor, Edward Furlong was 13. After the first Terminator's arm and chip are destroyed, you ask, "Shouldn't he (Uncle Bob) not exist anymore?" Well, as he mentioned, there was still the one chip left, which was in his own head. As long as that chip still existed, there was still the potential for someone to use it and develop it. And of course, there's no way to know how time travel rules would actually work, if it ever happens. (Most scientists and physicists nowadays, however, think that time travel will never be possible.) Such a great reaction, Cristy! Thank you so much for sharing your time with us! You make for one heck of an awesome movie buddy! ❤️

This one is the best of the original trilogy for sure. And I know this is an unpopular opinion but I like the third one more than the first one.

YES! I can't wait til this evening when I get to watch this along with you. 🙂
