Behind The Scenes: Trials of Pog Comic Breakdown

People seemed to enjoy the previous workflow, so we thought to share another one. We are glad that everyone is happy to see more behind-the-scenes development of Sinners Landing.

Conan the Barbarian, one of the greatest fantasy films ever made, served as inspiration for this portion of Pog's origin story, which you'll know more on the next update!

Here is the video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxVEgxidiJk !

A rival tribe captures Pog at a young age and sells her as a slave. She's pretty laconic about the whole thing, but... it was not a positive time.

The first blocking shot features a variety of visual inspirations and references. Already, the first elements that will make up the final shot are in place.

We cleaned up the references and established the core of the story.

Artists communicate visually, and here we see our animation artist and the 2D artist working together, arguing back and forth about hand angles. The animation artist, who is going to animate this, wants to hide the wheel spoke so they don't have to deal with a 3D rotation in 2D, which is a hassle.

Gradually, the elements of the scene come together, telling the story of Pog.

We break up all the layers so the animators can work with them; final shading follows.

At this point, the animation artist takes over, and the 2D artist completes their work, handing over the final artwork for animation in Spine.

Many of us are avid fans of fantasy, D&D, and roleplaying games, which naturally leads to numerous homages along the way.

Happy to use the Trials of Pog to give a shoutout to Arnie's epic tale of blood, sex, and muscles.
