SSS-Rank Chaos Mage Chapter 16: Definitely a scam!

Hearing a snarling sound to his left, Noah turned to see a weird-looking beast. It sort of looked like a wild boar from the earth, except that this one was fatter and had curved horns on top of its head.

“Wait, this is just some sort of boar. Why would it be violent? Ok. Stay calm and deal with this. Good boy. Good boy. Just stay there.” Noah slowly backed away. The boar as well stood still, snorting and staring at him as if it was obediently obeying him.

However, unfortunately for Noah, that was just an illusion. The next second, the boar suddenly snorted loudly and reared its front legs up in the air before lunging forward to charge at him at full speed.

“Motherf*cker” Noah immediately turned and ran again. Behind him, the boar did not let up and continued chasing after him. “No. Why am I running? I just got that new skill. Can’t I throw these black balls at the bastard?”

Noah had no idea how to control these so-called chaos orbs as it had taken a while for him even to see the damn things, but this was definitely some sort of magic, so at least it had to be powerful.

“Get wrecked!” He gritted his teeth and shouted as he tried to picture the black orbs shooting forwards towards the boar and hitting it right in the middle of its eyes on its head. This should work? Right?

And to Noah’s shock, it did work!

As he kept turning back and running ahead, he saw that the black balls actually obeyed his command and flew towards the damned beast. The three balls swirled in the air and zoomed forward at high speed, exploding right on the marked target.

“Heck yeah!!!” Finally, something was going right! Noah turned around to see the aftermath of his beautiful magic when he unexpectedly noticed something weird. Well, the weird part was that nothing had really happened. There wasn’t even a slight hiccup in the boar’s movement as it continued chasing him without missing a beat.

Wait a minute. What the hell was going on here? Why did nothing happen?

Noah had clearly seen the three balls fly away from him and hit the boar, and yet nothing happened? How could that be possible? Shouldn’t it have at least scratched the damned thing? Today was a complete disaster, damn it!

Noah clutched his head in confusion and stared at the incoming devil that was charging towards him as if it was determined to claim his life. “Shit. I better run.” He snapped out of it and resumed his escape plan A, to run the hell away from the beast.

The only good thing was that Noah was faster than the wild boar, but from the looks of it, that was not going to last. After running for a few seconds, he could no longer keep up that insane speed.

He had already played this game of running and catching for a while with the boar, so he was now starting to get tired. The distance he managed to create between himself and the wild beast by sprinting forward from the get-go was slowly beginning to reduce little by little.

Noah could now hear the animal breathing down his neck. It was right behind him. It was only a matter of seconds before the vicious-looking thing caught up to him. Though he had speed, his stamina was dropping fast.

“Damn it. This is not working. I am definitely going to get kicked in the nards today. Ayo. Maybe that animal is also planning to eat me. Huff. Huff. Stop chasing me, you fucker!” Noah cursed his stupidity for thinking that this was ever a good idea.

What else did he expect to happen? That he would get a sweet-ass skill and he would become overpowered? That shit did not happen in real life! This whole thing was a scam! Thanks to his delusions, this rabid animal was going to maul him to death!

“I magically came to another world to die at the hand of this?” Noah wanted to laugh at his misery, but the next second… BOOM! An explosion rocked in the distance. Somewhere nearby, a loud commotion occurred as if several people were fighting an intense battle.

And thankfully for him, the beast that was chasing him was startled by this commotion just like him and turned tails to run away in the opposite direction in fear. Noah blinked as he watched this scene in disbelief. The boar that was thirsting for his life was gone just like that?

“What a smart fellow!” He chuckled wryly and collapsed on the ground, heaving and panting. He opened the water bottle he was carrying in his backpack and drank several mouthfuls. Only then was he able to calm down a little and catch his breath.

BOOM! Another explosion rang, and Noah turned to see what the heck was going on. He also noticed that he was still within the thick forest. “Hmmm… have I not been running for a while? Shouldn’t I be back near the gate?”

He observed his surroundings for a couple of seconds when he got his answer. Instead of running towards the exit, he probably ran deeper into the forest! “Perfect! This is just what I need.”

He scrambled to quickly get back up on his feet which were pretty much jelly at this moment. He was definitely tired, but he couldn’t afford to rest in the middle of this death trap. Who knew how many of those bad boys were lurking in the corner, aiming for him?! He once again started moving.
