Today we'll be looking at the guitar fills from this funky and spacious verse. There's a few gaps in between these fills, so don't doze off during the gaps. Remember, NEVER fall asleep while playing guitar.
If you go back quite a ways, you'll find lessons for the intro and chorus of this song.

So basically, the guitar plays 4 little funky things during the pauses in the vocal melody:
Fill #1: you'll play these nice 4 string voicings on the high strings which make up an Fmin11 chord (when in the 8th position). When you play the same shape 2 frets higher you get this really cool dorian sound. Sometimes I'll use these shapes in whatever key if I'm just jamming over any old funk groove. It seems to work well a ton of the time! After the 2 chords, I play a pentatonic fill in 4ths. Add a slight bend to that last note to give it some extra zazzle.
Fill #2: it's just a few chords: Cm7, Bb, Bb, Cm7
Fill #3: Just a variation of Fill #1
Fill #4: Just a rhythmic variation of Fill #2

Hope you enjoy this lesson. Remember, NEVER fall asleep while playing guitar.
